Transient overvoltage: In an electrical network, we have different types of overvoltage that can affect the connected devices, which in general terms, can be segmented into 4 typologies. In some cases, overvoltages due to switching are overlooked or underestimated, but they can be very important and seriously damage the connected devices. As for switching overvoltages, it is essential to take into account those produced by switching inductive or capacitive loads, specially: - Inductive loads (disconnection) – At the time of interruption, all the energy stored by the inductance must be discharged, and it is discharged according to the time constant of the circuit against the capacitive part of the power grid, which could generate high overvoltages on it. - Capacitive loads (connection) – At the moment of connection, considering ωο>>ω, overvoltage up to two times the rated voltage may occur depending on the energization time.
