There isn’t any feeling that comes close to the sheer pride that fills you while representing your country and brand at a global forum. Recently, Abhay and I had the honor of representing #Licious at one of the largest poultry conferences in Peru - AVEM 2023 Poultry Congress - thanks to an invitation from Peru’s Poultry Association. The experience can be best described as being enlightening and memorable. My first takeaway is from my interaction with the country of Peru - I was completely taken by its rich culture & history, warm & welcoming people and lip-smacking delicacies (Ceviche, a Peruvian delicacy, is a must-try!). Undoubtedly it is extremely far from India, the distance actually sunk in when we booked our flight tickets, yet in so many ways it felt much similar to India, especially the traffic that didn't make me miss Bengaluru even for a moment! My other takeaway is the contrast between the country’s meat consumption pattern and the status of its poultry industry. With a per capita chicken consumption of 50 kgs annually (that’s insanely huge when the same statistic in India stands at a mere 3.5kgs); Lima, the capital city of Peru, alone devours 80 kgs per year - the numbers are mind-boggling! However, our interactions with local business owners and poultry leaders revealed a fascinating contrast about the industry. Despite chicken being a staple, the industry has much ground to cover; to set context, the sector relies heavily on different chicken breeds as primary differentiators. There seemed to be little thought spared to understand what the consumer defines as a tasty chicken dish. We were more than happy to share notes from Licious on how we deep-dive into consumer preferences with a sharp focus on quality, built with practices that are still unheard of in another corner of the world! Also puts things into perspective for us - while we offer more than 300 SKUs across the raw & fresh and ready to cook categories, there are yet sectors in some parts of the world grappling with vocabulary as ross or cobb breed of chicken, with no distinct differentiated markers. When Abhay and I returned home, we were overwhelmed by the knowledge exchange, at the same time beaming with joy, pride, and love for our country and for everyone who has been part of the #LiciousMission. Being on such global platforms and engaging with varied stakeholders always fills one with a deeper sense of purpose and pride.
