Child care and early education (CCEE) programs faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including program closures (both temporary and permanent) and decreased enrollment, which made it difficult for programs to continue operation. This new research highlight from our research partner Child Trends explores research about how CCEE programs were affected by the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, including program closures and enrollment rates. It describes variations in program closures and enrollment by program setting, funding, and family characteristics. https://buff.ly/46D6t9I #ECE #ECEchat #childcare

“The results of these experiments show that a relatively small prepaid token of appreciation can significantly improve response rates among child care and early education staff when in-person visits by study representatives are not possible. It also suggests that prepaid tokens of appreciation might remove the need for in-person visits to achieve a high response rate.” Learn more in this white paper from our research partner Mathematica and the Assessing the Implementation and Costs of High-Quality Early Care and Education (ICHQ) project, which shares the results of two experiments of tokens of appreciation with surveys of staff in child care and early education. https://buff.ly/3ESPFzI #ChildCare #ECE #ECEchat #research

Did you know Child Care Aware of America developed an interactive tool to help you track child care and early childhood education policies, funding allocations, and ballot measures across the nation? The dashboard allows researchers and advocates to learn how states are building more equitable, accessible, and affordable child care systems. #ECE #childcare

“Keep it simple”—a principle that applies in just about every line of work. Think you have it down pat? Try this: Describe all the steps for someone to put on and zip up a coat. Oh, and that someone is a two year old who is still developing the language and physical dexterity required for the task. Plus there are 10 of them all waiting to go outside. Welcome to a day in the life of an early childhood educator! Developing and delivering high-quality, age-appropriate education is more complex than it seems. We asked parents to share some memorable moments from their family’s experience in child care. We love reading these stories, so keep ‘em coming. #EarlyChildhoodEducators #EarlyChildhoodEducation #EarlyLearning #ChildCare

Child Care 101: The 6 C’s Playing and learning are connected to meaningful experiences. The 6 C's are essential skills that help children develop and prepare for success. According to Kathy Hirsh-Pasek and Helen Hadani, these skills are based on the science of learning and build upon each other. These are the 6 C’s: 💡Collaboration: reflects social engagement with others and the ability to manage children’s behavior and emotions 💡Communication: develops interaction in speaking, writing, reading, and listening to express their needs and ideas 💡Content: gathering isolated pieces of information to become knowledgeable and self-reflection on what is already known 💡Critical thinking: coming across a vast sea of information and being able to recognize truth from false information 💡Creative innovation: using the details that are already known to create something completely new with creative innovation 💡Confidence: the ability to take risks and step out of their comfort zone to grow and achieve greatness #OnsiteKids #ChildCare #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ChildCareSkills #PlayAndLearn #MeaningfulExperiences #ScienceOfLearning #CollaborationSkills #EffectiveCommunication #KnowledgeBuilding #CriticalThinkingMinds #CreativeInnovation #Confidents
