Junior Software Engineers--Sending InMails to hiring managers is a huge waste of your money in 2024. Most hiring managers are nice people, but no one can handle the volume of messages being sent these days. I get more than 20/day and I'm know that tech managers at large companies get many more. Here's the secret to getting a conversation these days. Get a referral. I've accepted 3 meetings so far this year with talent who had interest in discussing our openings; all of them were referred by someone who I knew and trusted. How do you go about getting referrals? It's not easy; You have to be out networking, in-person, consistently. As you meet people related to your future field, always get connected on LinkedIN. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll know somebody for just about every opportunity you'd like a referral for. What do you think? Are you willing to put in the work to stick out in 2024?
