With the current ruling that there will be no new land clearing or deforestation for oil palm plantations, The Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that the government was committed to maintaining the status quo of current land use for the purpose of oil palm plantations. The question is what are the government initiative to increase production aside from R&D to improve the current yield? Considerations should be given capitalise on vast unused agricultural land such as rubber smallholders to plant palm oil. With the current fluctuating price of rubber, many smallholders are having a hard time in getting a stable income. Palm oil which takes takes only a minimum of 3 years to be ready for harvest compared to rubber which is 5 to 7 years thus will ensure that these smallholders will have a stable income in a shorter period. The government should introduce a proper program to attract more smallholders to plant palm oil by introducing Incentives, subsidies and agri knowhow so that these small holders will be attracted to the government initiative.

After more than three years of studies, Rumo, a logistics company of the Cosan group, and the port operator DP World (Dubai Ports World) have signed a binding agreement for the construction of a new grain and fertilizer terminal in Port of Santos. The planned investment is R$2.5 billion. The new terminal should have the capacity to handle annually 9 million tons of grains and 3.5 million tons of fertilizers. The expectation is that the operation will begin operating in mid-2027. The expectation is that this phase be completed by the end of this year, so that the works can be beginning in early 2025. Construction is expected to take 30 months.
