🏥 Community Health Centers: A Vital Safety Net Under Stress 🌟 Did you know that 1 in 11 Americans relies on federally designated community health centers for essential medical care and social services? These centers play a critical role in providing healthcare to low-income individuals and families across the country. Here's what you need to know: ✅ Community health centers serve as a lifeline for millions, offering routine medical care, social services, and even fresh food to those in need. 📈 Since 2012, there has been a 45% increase in patients seeking care at these centers, resulting in over 15,000 locations nationwide. 🩺 Unfortunately, many centers are understaffed, making it challenging to meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals, including doctors, mental health experts, nurses, and dentists. 💰 Funding remains a constant concern, with budget debates making long-term planning and hiring difficult. 🌎 These centers are essential, especially in underserved communities, as they address health disparities and offer preventive care to reduce the burden on hospitals. Community health centers build trust in their communities by understanding the unique needs of their patients. For example, Plaza del Sol Family Health Center in Queens serves a predominantly Latino neighborhood, requiring staff to speak Spanish fluently. Despite their tireless efforts, these centers need additional support to continue their invaluable work. Increased federal funding is essential to match rising patient numbers and healthcare inflation. Let's recognize and support the incredible work of community health centers as they continue to make a positive impact on countless lives. 💪❤️ #CommunityHealth #HealthcareHeroes #SupportCHCs

Dear MyCare Supporters, Community Health Centers, like MyCare are now in a finite window until January 19th to secure continual health center funding, otherwise the result will likely be flat funding through nearly all of 2024 (which is equivalent to a 9.3% decrease when accounting for inflation). We need to leverage this window to achieve a long-term extension and increase in health center funding and time is of the essence! Community health centers have faced moments like this many times throughout our history, and it has been people like you stepping up to be an advocate that has made a difference. Our nation's health centers face a critical funding crisis, and we need your expertise and passion to make a difference. With our funding set to expire on January 19, 2024, we are at a pivotal moment. Now is the time to join forces with us and other community health centers to advocate for bipartisan legislation to extend and increase funding for health centers and primary care workforce programs. We encourage you to use this link https://lnkd.in/djEApvDc to easily reach out to your Senators/Representatives and amplify our collective voice. Your advocacy can shape the future of healthcare for millions. Let's act together! #HealthcareAdvocacy #FederalFunding #CommunityHealth #BipartisanAction #MPCA #NACHC #TrustYourCaretoMyCare

You illustrate how important locally focused health care leadership is. Now think about how many more such leaders there would be in Americas underserved urban and rural parts of the nation with half of the population - if 500 hospitals and thousands of practices had not been closed and their voices silenced Now think about their spouses who have also been forced away and silenced. Spouses are often leaders in local health care also, and are leaders in other areas of the community. We must stop the destruction of basic health access. We must stop the abuse of basic services paid least. We must diagnose and treat the real health insurance problem - worst quality health plans that pay the least and abuse the most, especially in those behind the most in need, in jobs, in income, in aging, in disability, in mental health, and more. In the early 1990s I was a part of the solution at ETSU doing rural programs - rural fellowships, minifellowships, rural high school career fairs, rural sites of training and practice. I loved the work and the people, and still do - and I hurt for them too. You make a difference!
Nurses, Peer Recovery Specialits, Medical Doctors, Behavioral Health Counselors, Social Workers, Rural Hospital and Rural Heath Clinics Administrators: The hardest working people in Tennessee, changing lives of individuals and improving our communities. Rural Health Association of Tennessee had the honor of hosting regional representatives from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on a 1.5 day trip to visit 5 rural clinics and Starr Regional Medical Center. These places are doing amazing work and unanimously agreed they could be doing more if not for severe healthcare workforce shortages, reimbursement systems not keeping pace with rising costs, and lack of access to quality and timely information. We will advocate for improved policies alongside these amazing humans and the people we serve until all Tennesseans have access to high-quality, affordable care. #ruralhealth #tennessee #workforcedevelopment #healthcare #advocacy

I believe that community health workers ( or similar actors) at the grassroot level are the most important vehicles to reduce the disease burden. It is not the highly educated doctors or nurses that contribute most to the reduction of diseases in the community. It is the community health workers that help to prevent most cases of diseases. If not them, the hospital would flooded with patients. They can be easily trained, they can reach remote areas, make people aware of the diseases, they can connect community people with health centers and most importantly they need low resources. Doctors are important for treating diseases. But education of a doctor requires longer time and good education system. Also, sometimes, they cannot reach the remote areas as they are mostly centered in the health centers. Therefore, efforts can be made to increase the numbers of community health workers for full coverage, providing training to equip them with knowledge and support from the existing health system or other steps for motivation. -Plabon Sarkar #opinion #healthcare

Experienced physician executive with a commitment to improving clinical outcomes and a passion for addressing healthcare disparities| Host of Crossing the Chasm, DEI podcast
"Health care professionals and health systems can help boost program participation by building partnerships with local WIC agencies and advocating for upstream policy changes that reduce administrative burdens. In clinical settings, health care professionals, including pediatricians, family medicine specialists, and obstetricians, can provide WIC eligibility and enrollment information to Medicaid-insured and uninsured patients and consider providing families with support in the enrollment and recertification process." This article has some thoughtful considerations on ways to promote health equity for the women and children supported by this program. The authors don't limit discussion to the administrative burdens named in the title but also addressing learning concerns, psychological barriers but most importantly the solutions that are available for healthcare professionals and health systems to improve outcomes. #WIC #healthequity #dei #diversityequityinclusion #healthsystems

Understanding the home care industry can sometimes feel like learning a new language. Let's break down the basics together. 1️⃣ A Licensed Home Care Services Agency (LHCSA) is licensed by New York State Department of Health and provides skilled, hands-on care and assistance with activities of daily living as well as socialization and medical transportation. They are often involved in more complex healthcare needs and work under the guidance of a healthcare professional. (Hint - COHME is an LHCSA!) 2️⃣ Companion Care focuses on providing emotional support, companionship, and assistance with daily living activities. Companion care is not licensed by the state and therefore cannot provide skilled medical care. The emphasis is on improving the quality of life and providing assistance with non-medical aspects of daily living. Whatever care you need, our team at COHME is here for you. #Homehealthcare #homecare #healthcare #seniorcare

Building on two previous phases of an ongoing initiative to advance home-based primary care in the U.S., The John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF) has launched Moving and Scaling Home-Based Primary Care Phase III: Quality, Training, Advocacy, and Policy. This most recent grant phase supports JAHF’s overall mission of creating age-friendly health systems and represents the collaborative efforts of four organizations: the Home Centered Care Institute, the National Home-Based Primary Care Learning Network, the American Academy of Home Care Medicine, and the Duke-Margolis Institute for Health Policy, most recently adding a focus on policy as a lever to promote home-based primary care. “The Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ) Resident Hospital Health Check for 2023 revealed that a third of doctors-in-training do not feel safe at work. This alarming figure aligns with a reported increase in violence and aggression towards health care workers, with a 13% increase in the past year compared with 2019–2020. In addition to occupational violence, doctors also reported ongoing concerns, with widespread bullying and harassment and fear that fatigue might lead to patient errors. With widespread staff shortages ongoing, urgent action is required to provide a safe working environment for health care workers and thus support retention and the sustainability of the medical workforce in Queensland.” Read more: https://ow.ly/UZnw50QA2ST
