A couple of weeks ago I had the honour of being invested as an Officer of the Order of St John. I was recognised for this honour for my volunteer work at Hato Hone St John locally with the Nelson-Tasman Bays Area Committee, and regionally with the South Island Region Trust Board. The Order of St John is an Order of Chivalry and is an independent part of the New Zealand Royal Honours system. Honours are conferred by the Order with the sanction of King Charles III as Sovereign Head of the Order. To be admitted or promoted within the Order members must show a remarkable dedication to St John and the work of the Order. It has been quite overwhelming, and I’ve had a range of emotions to process as I’ve taken it all in. I have moved through embarrassment, an ‘imposter’ feeling and eventually pride. Through all this stuff swimming around in my head, I keep coming back to focussing on the ‘why’ I volunteer and contribute to such an amazing organisation – here are some of the reasons: PEOPLE - I get to interact with like-minded, passionate and community focused individuals. Genuine people, many of whom have become lifelong friends. Amazing people from a variety of backgrounds, who ordinarily I wouldn’t cross paths with. WELLBEING – Sharing my skills, knowledge and time is a real boost for my confidence, resilience and sometimes pushes me outside my comfort zone. I feel connected and have a strong sense of purpose in the work we do. UNDERSTANDING – I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of the needs and challenges faced by our communities and a far more empathetic view of the world around me. My perceptions are challenged, and I’ve realised some unconscious bias, I never knew I had sitting there! So, why am I sharing this? To encourage you to volunteer your time, knowledge, and experience to the vast number of organisations and community groups out there – plenty are looking for help and support, from ordinary everyday people like you. I know time is precious, but maybe consider sharing it with an organisation like Hato Hone St John – you never know where it might take you. My experience volunteering has genuinely been one of getting equally, if not more back than I put in. Get out there and do it! #stjohn #volunteer #community

Consultant; Writer; Foresight and Futures Researcher. Program Manager for IndigiGenius Assistant Professor of Indigenous Knowledge, Data Sovereignty, and Decolonization (through June 2024)
#NationalDayOfMourning Take action today. Use this time to talk with woven family and get commitments of support, not empty words. What programs can each of you contribute to, even if a little bit? Make a plan, pool resources, and donate. This might require a brief internet search beforehand: Check your local and regional tribes’ needs. What public-facing programs do they note? What holiday drives are they promoting? Don’t know where to start? Below are two ways to learn more about Indigenous communities in your area. ***Do not assume because tribes and nations were forcibly relocated they’re now “gone”*** [Regional example: Wenatchee area tribes] 1. Look at local university land acknowledgements. Make them useful for tangible actions! 2. https://native-land.ca - While not perfect, it can be a solid start. ——Other options—— Below are two Indigenous organizations my family has supported and continues to: my daughter already selected someine’s wish list for the CRYP yesterday evening. 1. Cheyeaane River Youth Project - Lakota (Cheyanne River Sioux) organization https://lnkd.in/gYupmNrh 2. Save Rez Dogs - I love the Save Rez Dogs’ Pride Stickers and yearly calendar https://lnkd.in/gYZdHh97 Locally, I’ll be donating to a Yakama-led organization starting December 4th. What will you commit to doing today?

What are you most proud of this year? Any favorite projects from 2023? Mine was the #WVUDayofGiving campaign I led for Adventure WV! I'm so proud of the work that my team did, raising $3,220 in our FIRST EVER Day of Giving campaign. 🙌 🎉 What made this successful? 📖 Storytelling. We could put together all of the messaging in the world about how the program impacts students, but it would not compare to the power of hearing real stories from real students. ⏪ Nostalgia. By having real students tell their stories, we were able to tap into alumni's memories, which inspired them to donate. ⚠ Risk taking. As mentioned, this was their first ever Day of Giving campaign, so there weren't previously successful tactics that we could hit refresh on or revamp. We started from scratch and had to come up with new and innovative ideas, which is always risky. 💼 Support from leadership and staff. Not enough can be said about having supportive leadership. I was lucky to have that, as well as supportive (non-marketing) coworkers who helped to post, share, and spread the word of the campaign and assist in any way possible. Share your successes! Drop your favorite projects below. ⤵

Hi everyone Do you want to support PTTR Ltd? Did you know that we receive no government funding - either federal or state? Philanthropic grants and donations are our primary means of support. :) So here are 3 ways you can help make sure we can keep on supporting over 100 PTTR communities across Australia! 1) Make a personal donation through our Justgiving page. They will provide you with a tax receipt, or follow the link on our website. www.paintthetownread.info 2) If your organisation would like to make a donation, contact me at bb@paintthetownread.info, and I can issue you an invoice and/or tax receipt. 3) Buy a ticket/s in the 2024 People First Community Lottery with the total value of your lottery ticket/s coming to Paint the Town Read! We just need to sell the tickets. Tickets are only $2 each and you go into the draw for a chance to win one of 52 prizes worth over $300,000. The lottery is funded and run by People’ First. They invited us to join the Lottery. It would be great if everyone could help us raise money this year, by buying tickets and/ or spreading the word amongst family & friends. How to buy tickets? Head to https://lnkd.in/gsbK9BHr, find Paint the Town Read and click buy tickets. Unfortunately, it doesn’t include WA…probably because WA already has the terrific LotteryWest, which has funded PTTR events in the past in WA. So WA folk, ignore this request, and focus instead on the other 3 ideas above. :) To slightly change one of our PTTR rhymes: Giving is fun - from Day 1 Did you hear what I said? Paint the Town REaD!
Let’s all read, talk, sing and rhyme with children from birth

President/Founder Still Consulting Group, LLC & Founder & President The Unforgettables Foundation of Southern Ohio
Today is Giving Tuesday and Why is this day so special? Recognizing how the holiday spirit had shifted to consumerism, New York’s 92nd Street Y Started Giving Tuesday to encourage people to help make a difference and impact their community. As I look at Giving Tuesday for me, the Why is how can I help those that cannot help themselves, such as helping families in need that have just lost a child to allow them the dignity to have a proper burial for their child so that they can grieve. Hopefully most of you have not been through this or have had to endure such a heartbreaking tragedy. But those who have it opens up an impasse of impassibilities that they will have to endure, and emotions that will last a lifetime. This is why I founded and give to the Unforgettables Foundation of Southern Ohio. For families in need who have no one to turn to, and when no one steps up for them, we can and we will. Because Every Child Is Unforgettable! One of saddest and most tragic facts in life is that sometimes children die. The hardship families face is not just emotional… It’s financial. So, what I am asking you to do is not easy. Unlike all the other opportunities you are going to see for Giving Tuesday, I am asking you to give to people who don’t even know they need your help yet. But they will and in a very big way. Giving Tuesday allows us to bless and serve others. As we have received much, we can also give much in return. Giving is one way that makes us feel better and feel far better than when we are on the receiving end. As you consider different causes this year, please think about a foundation that is close to my heart and that helps so many in our community, who right now may not even know they will need our help. It is called The Unforgettables Foundation of Southern Ohio. This foundation helps families in need who have tragically lost a child in providing them the means to give their child a dignified funeral. By helping these families cover the unexpected and cost of burial, we alleviate a substantial burden at arguably the worst time in their lives and allow them to move on with the grieving process. This year, The Unforgettables Foundation of Southern Ohio has been blessed with a $5,000 matching gift which means if you give $20 dollars to the foundation it will be like giving $40. If you are able to give $100 it will be like giving $200. Every dollar counts and we are blessed to help families in the Southern Ohio area and beyond who need our help desperately. Please take time to consider making a difference to those families. It will help them more than you will ever know. There are 40 families this year alone that know that to be true. Please take time to consider donating to the The Unforgettables Foundation of Southern Ohio. Because Every Child is Unforgettable and during the darkest time for a family, we can be a shining light for them. Goto our Website to Donate: https://lnkd.in/dcTpXwz
