Reflecting on a pivotal moment in my career journey: in 2011, freshly minted as a physician, I found myself navigating the transition from academia to industry. It was then that I encountered a transformative figure who would leave an indelible mark on both my professional trajectory and personal growth. Stephane Bentolila was the visionary General Manager of Servier Argentina. Amidst the dynamic landscape of the pharmaceutical industry, he recognized potential in me and extended a guiding hand. His belief in my capabilities not only secured my role as a Marketing leader for the Cardiometabolic Franchise but also ignited a journey of mentorship and empowerment. Throughout my tenure, Stephane's unwavering support served as a beacon, particularly during the initial stages of onboarding when uncertainty loomed large. He encouraged calculated risks, fostering an environment where failure was embraced as a stepping stone to growth. Under his tutelage, I gleaned invaluable insights and honed skills that continue to shape my approach to this day. We met each other this week at the #ESC #HeartFailure Congress (after almost 10 years). It was an opportunity to share my profound gratitude for Stephane's intuition and boldness in championing emerging talent like myself. His willingness to look beyond the conventional pool of candidates speaks volumes about the transformative power of visionary leadership. To fellow leaders, I pose a question: are you entrusting your instincts to unearth untapped potential or adhering to the status quo?

With the spirit of both joy and a touch of nostalgia I am pleased to announce my jump from the CEO to Chief Business Officer (CBO) at Medis . This change is not about swapping board meetings for surfboards, but rather about deepening my passion for what we do.🤞 Having made this shift, it allows me to focus more intensely on expanding our pharmaceutical portfolio through our long-standing industry partners and new partners venturing into the #CEE territory. It’s not just where you are going…. Here is another lesson to consider: It’s not just where you are going.  It’s HOW will you get there? I had a team working with about 1800 independent pharmacies on a project.  We knew where wanted to go, but we also had to figure out how we were going to get there. Consider this.  Suppose you have a nice, fast car.  Let’s even take it one step further, let’s say that it is the superlative of cars – whatever that would be for you.  The absolute best.  But what if your goal is to get from North America to Australia?  I don’t care how nice or how fast your car is, it cannot get you to Australia.  You need a different car.  You need a different HOW.  I did not learn this in school, so I had to look it up.  When Ferdinand Magellan sailed around the world, he had 5 ships.  The lead ship was the Trinidad.  You and I could come to fast agreement that it may not be as pretty or comfortable as your dream car, but we would be far better suited to get to Australia with the Trinidad! We need to know where we are going, but we also need a reasonable way to get there.  With my team and independent pharmacies, we had to come up with a way to direct the pharmacies to the most impactful actions.  We were essentially able to help these pharmacies find a way to navigate to the goal.  As you can expect, some navigated more easily or more quickly than others, but the path was there. Let me encourage you today: your path is there, too.  You simply need to decide where you are going and come up with a way to get there.  Don’t get too worked up about how you plan to get there.  You can always improve you plan as you progress. I joined Janssen Pharmaceuticals in 2012 and held a number of Sales & Marketing Management roles before moving across to Medical Devices in 2018. All together I’ve been with J&J for nearly 11 years. Time flies when you’re having fun! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞? My team on the whole are very tenured and talented people who continually challenge the status quo and try to find new and better ways to ‘get stuff done’. All with a view to ensuring the customers and ultimately patients, get what they need when they need it. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞? By living by the philosophy of ‘work hard, play hard … then turn up the next day to work hard again’.  When I look back on my total career, the big leaps were primarily due to someone believing in my ability and sponsoring me to take on ‘the next role’. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞? In New Zealand we don’t have many layers of hierarchy, so our leaders are really close to the team and customers. We also each cover a wide variety of portfolios and job functions and work closely together as a leadership team so have a broad range of knowledge and experience across MedTech. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞/ 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡? The human body is absolutely incredible, but sometimes it needs help to work optimally. I love seeing science and technology coming together to help people feel better. Healthcare impacts everyone either directly or indirectly and it is really fulfilling to work in an organization with great products that really make a difference. 𝐀𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐝: Although J&J is a large global multinational organization, in New Zealand we operate as a small local business. Everyone wears many hats but are always happy to lend a helping hand to support colleagues. I’m really proud to be part of a team that is extremely customer centric and has a great ‘can do’ attitude!

Mindset Matters! Our regional head Victoria Anashkina came to visit Amgen Turkiye for three days. We used to work for a month 🙄to prepare for these meetings, which we call “Business Review Meetings”. Max 10 years ago , We would prepare hundreds of pages of presentations and get very stressed😏 I realized yesterday again that welcoming Victoria wasn't like this for us🙏🏻🍀🧿and I thought about why. Top 3 reasons came to my mind: In the past, we could only make presentations during these physical visits, we would meet once, max twice a year, but now we have the opportunity to explain ourselves almost every month virtually , so there is no such thing as one and only time to explain our business stories. Information and reporting systems developped significantly… almost all data automised. How the performance of the business is going can be seen at the click of a button🥰🙏🏻There is no need for heavy presentations anymore. And ultimately the culture of the company and style of the senior leaders is “still” very important. Being constructive, humble, having strong business acumen to understand complex matters, sincere human touch and listening capabilities are pretty key.
