This week in Antigua and Barbuda, the SIDS4 Conference is making plans to scale-up efforts to support these island nations at the frontlines of the #ClimateCrisis. Hurricane Beryl is wreaking havoc in parts of the Caribbean, underscoring the critical link between climate change and ocean temperatures. With wind speeds over 257 km/h, Beryl has become the earliest category five Atlantic hurricane on record. Exceptionally high sea surface temperatures have significantly fueled its power, resulting in days of death and destruction along its long path. "This disaster highlights the urgent need for multifunctional solutions to climate challenges, as we advocated at the recent UNSIDS conference," said Karina Barquet, our Team Leader: Water, Coasts and Ocean. This devastating event demonstrates why we, alongside Caribbean partners, continue to push for climate action and sustainable development.
