We have been passionately talking about sustainability at Lussmanns and how it impacts the sourcing of our ingredients, for many years. We are very proud to work with MSC in the UK - Certified Sustainable Seafood and would strongly urge other businesses to consider where they source their ingredients, after all, together we have a far stronger impact. Your business becoming MSC certified means that your fish and seafood comes from fisheries that have met rigorous sustainability standards, incentivising more fisheries to become certified, and giving consumers a more sustainable choice when they look for the blue MSC ecolabel on restaurant menus, and in supermarkets. Meet @Lussmanns: a collection of restaurants in Hertfordshire, sourcing and serving quality ingredients from the UK’s finest fishers and farmers at an accessible price. Over half of the main courses on Lussmanns’ menu are seafood, based on the belief that we don’t need to stop eating seafood but we do need to be conscious of its origin. In 2014, they became the first restaurant group outside London to obtain the MSC Chain of Custody, a visible assurance that ordering fish here means leaving plenty in the sea. Today, we want to open up a conversation about sustainability—a topic close to our hearts here at Ivar’s. We take immense pride in going the extra mile to ensure that the seafood in our dishes comes from sustainable sources. For us, it’s more than just a commitment; it's a shared responsibility to protect the health of our oceans and the well-being of our planet. For example, when it comes to our clams, crab and salmon, each piece is carefully selected from fisheries that prioritize sustainability. We believe in preserving the balance of marine life, and that's why we exclusively purchase our salmon from the state of Alaska. Their state constitution mandates sustainable practices for all their fisheries and we wholeheartedly support this essential initiative. There's always a story behind every choice we make. For instance, we refrain from using Chinook Salmon from the Salish Sea. This delicious variety is best left for our beloved southern resident Orca whales, who rely on it as their primary food source. It's our way of ensuring that these majestic creatures thrive in their habitat. Especially in the world that in live in today, making sustainable choices is a shared responsibility that we can’t ignore. We know that we’re not alone in this journey and it’s only the beginning. Sustainability at it’s finest episode 34 of 100 Alaskan pollock fishery 🇺🇸 👏👏 ❤️ Wild Alaska Pollock is the largest, certified sustainable fishery in the world, accounting for 43% (by weight) of all seafood caught in the U.S. NOAA endorses Wild Alaska Pollock as a smart seafood choice because it's sustainably managed, responsibly harvested, and not subject to overfishing. Alaska’s cold, nutrient-rich waters support some of the largest and most successful commercial fisheries on the planet. The pollock fishery is one of them. It’s the second largest fishery in the world, worth an estimated $1.9 billion, and it provides nearly 30,000 jobs across the United States. Alaskan pollock is the main ingredient in some of our most popular foods—like fish sticks, imitation crab, and even the iconic Filet-O-Fish. It’s also the biggest fishery in the United States by volume, and recognized worldwide as being well managed and sustainable. For more than 20 years, NOAA Fisheries has been successfully managing the pollock fishery with a holistic ecosystem-based management model. Through innovation and sound science, government and industry continue to work together to improve this fishery, including efforts to reduce bycatch. American Seafoods Company is one of the leading companies within this amazing industry. It was founded by Kjell Inge Røkke in Seattle in 1988, following the passage of the American Fisheries Act in 1998. American Seafoods and seven other companies form the Pollock Conservation Cooperative. American Seafoods Company received 16.572% of Directed Pollock Fishery. The Ocean Integrity Group would most definitely give this fishery two thumbs up 👍 👍 and wish all involved endless success with this amazing fishery.
