We had an incredible time celebrating the achievements of our amazing scholars at the Starfish Senior Celebration! A special shoutout to our two Starfish Scholars, who are recipients of the Mike Feeney Scholarship. Thanks to our donors' generosity, we could offer this scholarship for the first time ever. It was truly inspiring to hear from former mentors and scholars, sharing their journey with Starfish Initiative—a perfect example of the impact of our mission and the strength of our community. #StarfishInitiative #YouthEmpowerment

Sow Seeds of Savings: Celebrating Kenyan Tree Planting Day with Sacco Membership Today, as we come together to celebrate Tree Planting Day, let's not only focus on greening our beautiful nation but also on planting the seeds of our financial future. Just as trees are planted today to provide for generations to come, so too can we nurture our prosperity through our membership in Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (Saccos). Joining a Sacco is like planting a seed for your future. It's about making consistent contributions, no matter how small, and allowing compound interest to work its magic over time. Each deposit made into a Sacco account is an investment in your financial security and stability. Just like trees stand tall and resilient when rooted together, so too can Sacco members build a solid foundation for their financial futures by standing united. Together, we can weather financial storms and achieve greater prosperity. As we commemorate Tree Planting Day, let's also take this opportunity to sow the seeds of our financial futures by actively participating in our Saccos. Every deposit made contributes to a brighter, more secure future for ourselves and our communities. So, let's join hands and plant the seeds of savings today, knowing that we are not only investing in our own future but also in the prosperity and resilience of our nation as a whole. Happy Tree Planting Day, and may our Sacco memberships continue to flourish and bear fruit for generations to come! #TreePlantingDay #SaccoMembership #FinancialFuture #Savings #Prosperity #TellingTheSaccoStory

Did you know that America's oldest turkey farm resides in Lancaster County? Esbenshade Turkey Farm near Paradise has been in operation since 1858. They provide a story of why every bit of farmland that we preserve is important – this farm has employed and fed 7 generations of the Esbenshade family. Places2040 calls on us to “preserve the farmer as well as the farm” – which can mean both listening to farmer’s needs as they provide a wider variety of services and making sure that we grow within our growth boundaries. If we work together to support these policies, our farmers can prosper for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/eVVyV_tE

"History teaches us that solutions to social problems are most likely to come from communities that have been excluded from the social good." In an article for Nonprofit Quarterly, LeeAnn C. Morrissette of National Black Food and Justice Alliance (FFCF grantee partner), writes about how Black activists and organizers are the ones to meet and respond to community needs when the government has—intentionally—failed to do so. She writes about how the current levels of food insecurity and malnutrition amongst Black folks are intergenerational. Redlining—the practice of denying Black folks home owner loans—excluded them from home/land ownership and limited them to industrial, city neighborhoods. Many of these neighborhoods are hot beds for toxic chemicals and pollutants, and often lack grocery stores with fresh and healthy foods. The climate crisis is only exacerbating these challenges. Throughout history, Fannie Lou Hamer's Freedom Farm Cooperative in Mississippi, Charles and Shirley Sherrod's New Communities—the first #CommunityLandTrust—and the Black Panther Party's free breakfast program have stepped up to feed our communities. This tradition of community-led activism is still strong, inspiring the work of the National Black Food and Justice Alliance, its network of food and farm laborers, us, and our movement partners. Read more about this history, the continued fight #BlackFoodSovereignty, and its importance in all of #FoodJustice and #LandJustice work at the link in bio. #BlackAugust #BlackPhilanthropyMonth https://lnkd.in/g-kUZnSs
