🌿 Embrace Environmental Justice (EJ) strategies to propel your project forward! 🚀 EJ considerations are essential for large scale projects seeking funding from the Department of Energy. However, securing funding is just the beginning – incorporating EJ into their strategies also helps businesses promote fair treatment and meaningful involvement of disadvantaged communities. 🤝 This not only strengthens the businesses’ reputation but also amplifies their contribution to societal progress. Learn more about the why and how in our latest article by Mark Romanelli. 👇 #environmentaljustice #socialsustainability #sustainablechange

Ground Truths shows how community-engaged research contributes to environmental justice for Black, Indigenous, people of color, and low-income communities by centering local knowledge, building truth from the ground up, producing data that can influence decisions, and transforming researchers’ relationships to communities for equity and mutual benefit. The book outlines the main steps in conducting community-engaged research, evaluates the major research methods used, and addresses institutional barriers to this kind of scholarship in academia. A critical synthesis of research in many fields, Ground Truths provides an original framework for aligning community-engaged research and environmental justice, and applies the framework in chapters on public health, urban planning, conservation, law and policy, community economic development, and food justice and sovereignty.
Join us for a webinar series on community-engaged research for environmental justice, co-hosted by SCU’s Environmental Justice & Common Good Initiative and the Urban & Environmental Policy Institute at Occidental College. These webinars draw on chapters from the new open-access book, Ground Truths: Community-Engaged Research for Environmental Justice, which will be available for free on January 9 from University of California Press Webinar registration - https://lnkd.in/ghJQvZMa Ground Truths book - https://lnkd.in/gamRRzhm #environmentaljustice, #communityengagedresearch

On April 23, 2024, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) introduced their new Environmental Justice Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse was mandated by Executive Order 14906 'Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All', which President Biden signed on April 21, 2023. The Clearinghouse currently contains links to over 230 documents, with more being added as they become available. There is also a public-access submission form for recommendations of additions to the Clearinghouse. Per the #EPA, the Clearinghouse contains the following: 📌 Information describing the activities of the members of the White House Environmental Justice Interagency Council to address issues relating to environmental justice. 📌 Information on technical assistance, tools, and resources to assist communities with environmental justice concerns in building capacity for public participation. 📌 Copies of training materials developed by the White House Environmental Justice Inter-agency Council or its members to help individuals and employees understand and carry out environmental justice activities. 📌 Any other information deemed appropriate by the EPA Administrator, in coordination with the White House Environmental Justice Inter-agency Council. The goal of the Clearinghouse is to make EJ information easy to obtain in one location. The documents are able to be filtered by the following categories: ▪︎ Access Subject Matter Expertise ▪︎ Applying for Assistance ▪︎ Available Funding ▪︎ Develop Organizational Capacity ▪︎ Justice40 ▪︎ Public Participation ▪︎ Publications ▪︎ Screening and Mapping Tools ▪︎ What Is EJ? The #EJClearinghouse should be an invaluable tool for those working in the EJ space!
