Great article here by #jeremyclarkson - worth a read. It’s not just Porsche. Almost every car I have driven with these “safety features” has tried to kill me or others at some stage. I particularly like the way, when you move right to give a cyclist more room, the wheel jerks left and the car tries to run them over. Or the way it tries to follow the studs left on the motorway from old road works and steer straight under the nearest articulated lorry. https://lnkd.in/eqh4W8sD

This seems like good advice, but it means more when you know a bit about Rickenbacker. He was a successful early race car driver, Medal of Honor-winning pilot in WWI, founder of a relatively successful early car company, one-time owner of The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the long-time head of Eastern Air Lines. This post was about stopway and ASDA. When training aerodrome operator staff and CAA aerodrome inspectors I often come across confusion about stopway. Some think that stopway needs to be provided in case an aeroplane abandons its take-off. Others think that addition of stopway improves safety - IT DOES NOT. Provision of stopway is a commercial advantage, nothing more. If an aeroplane is field length limited then adding stopway permits that aeroplane to take-off at a heavier mass, i.e. higher payload, meaning more revenue. It is always worthwhile, occasionally, to watch an aeroplane take-off that is heavily loaded to see how much of the runway it uses, as in this example. A similar point applies to the addition of clearway. There comes a point during the take-off run where the pilots are committed to the take-off even though still on the runway before rotation. This and similar issues are explored in some detail in the physical aerodrome module 3, physical aerodrome, and module 6, procedures, including re-declared distances of my online Aerodrome Compliance course.
