What a refreshing approach! Definitely something that I think will have positive impacts in the long-term, building positive working relationships between frontline/management. Subsequently, it is something that will also carry over into high-quality and consistent service being delivered to the public and stakeholders 💯

We’ve taken our show on the road, literally trying something new. Of course we can’t completely run a security agency while visiting our client’s properties, but we can come pretty close to a 50/50 split of our time in office vs frontline. The haters will say we aren’t busy enough, if we were as busy as them we couldn’t do it. I’d suggest for example, if you’re starting up 4 new hospitals at the exact same time, this is the only way to do it well. I might also reply with suggesting they take a significantly closer look at how time in the security agency office is actually spent, and re-evaluate the level of quality / value being delivered. By spending MORE time in the field than behind a desk, our management is; ✅ Building significantly stronger relationships with existing clients ✅ Networking and learning first hand the challenges our clients and their neighbours face ✅ Building unbreakable bonds with our Security Guards by learning what’s important to them & providing them with instant feedback and leadership ✅ Issuing carried supplies from notebooks to uniform replacements ensuring all employees are outfitted properly ✅ Ensuring continuity in service delivery. The same level of quality, every single day. ✅ Feeling connected to the value created by Vigilant reducing Manger burnout, lowering the number of overall emails received and for many, getting back to their roots in Private Security.

Vigilant’s Operations Management Team has adopted a very new approach. We have committed to spending more time in the field, working alongside our staff, than is spent in an office. We may continue to work in the field on answering emails, phone calls & cover last minute shift requests, but we’ve committed to doing that while on the road and alongside our Guards at least 51% of the time. Why? The frontline where our employees work is where our value is created, not from behind closed doors. We recognize the importance of our employees needing mentorship, motivation and continuous on-the-job training, while also giving them to freedom to make mistakes and take ownership of their own success. Recently this point was driven home for us when our management style was explained to a new recruit. The Guard advised he had been working for a relatively young yet national security agency for the last 12 months. In that year, he had never met his supervisor, was not issued a uniform, just body armour and told to wear it over dark coloured clothing. No training, no guidance. This new Guard has expressed such excitement after meeting with our CEO directly he felt Vigilant would be the last place he would work until ready to apply for a career in policing. Aligning with our vision statement; We are constantly redefining the expectations of both a provider and employer. Recently, employee reported that they saw a fellow employee carrying a knife on company premises. This is a serious matter that requires an immediate and appropriate response from the security operations team. Upon receiving the report, the security team should first ensure the immediate safety of all employees. This may involve conducting a thorough search of the premises to locate the individual in question and ensure that there are no immediate threats to anyone's safety. The team should also notify local law enforcement, as bringing a weapon onto company property may be a violation of state or federal/ central laws. Once the immediate threat has been addressed, the security team should conduct a thorough investigation to determine the facts of the situation. This may involve interviewing the employee who reported the incident, as well as any witnesses. The team should also review any relevant security footage to gain a better understanding of what happened. If the investigation confirms that an employee did bring a knife onto company property, the security team should take appropriate disciplinary action. This may include termination of employment, as well as notifying local law enforcement. It's important to note that a zero-tolerance policy towards weapons in the workplace can help prevent incidents like this from happening in the first place. Employees should be made aware of this policy and the potential consequences of violating it. As security professionals, it's our responsibility to protect the safety and well-being of all employees. We must take all threats seriously and take appropriate action to prevent harm and ensure a safe and secure work environment.

Verbally abused "It's just my job" Physically abused "It's just my job" Racially abused "It's just my job" Above answers given to me over the last few years by frontline: cleaners, Security operatives, gateline operatives, revenue officers, window cleaners. When debriefing incidents, the fact that people now are resigned to accept any abuse as part of their job is so sad. It appears to me that those sort of unsavoury and totally unacceptable incidents are at an all time high, leaving what tends to be the lowest paid individuals in society to recieve abuse from the general public. WELL IT'S NOT YOUR JOB OR ANYONES TO COME TO WORK TO BE ABUSED The only way this changes is through education to our frontline to report and support where we can. If this post hits home to one person and improves one single interaction it has had its desired effect. Every interaction matters ...........
