California businesses will soon be subject to new requirements to maintain workplace safety while providing new tools to prohibit threatening actors from entering workplace environments. The requirements stem from S.B. 533, which Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law last week. I took a deep dive for Security Management (ASIS International) into what the new requirements mean for California security managers. https://lnkd.in/eScAumRv #workplaceviolenceprevention #workplacesafety #security #securityregulations

Creating a safe and healthy workplace environment is a shared responsibility. One crucial step in this process is conducting thorough criminal record checks on potential hires. Here's why it matters: 🚨 Identifying Red Flags: Uncover potential risks by checking for a history of violent crime or theft in a candidate's past. 📋 Compliance with Regulations: Certain positions, especially those involving financial or legal authority, may require employees to maintain a clean criminal record. ⚖️ Promoting a Safer Work Environment: By conducting criminal record background checks, you not only adhere to industry regulations but also contribute to the overall safety of your workplace. Prioritise safety, make informed hiring decisions and create a workplace where everyone can thrive. 🌟 Contact us today to get more information! ☎️ 010 593 4491 🌐https://rpb.li/J1mBOK.. #WorkplaceSafety #EmployerResponsibility #BackgroundChecks #SafetyFirst

Check Out our book Combating Workplace Violence: Creating & Maintaining Safe Workplace Environments. Chapters 8 & 9 on the topic of Active Shooter/ Hostile Intruder/Preparation and Response offer valuable insight. You will not find another version of this information in this unique format. Introduction One of the most frightening experiences that can occur on the job or off -- in LittleTown High School or City Farmers Market, in a classy bar, or at Sunday Worship – is the arrival of an Active Shooter or Hostile Intruder. From the initial alert until the “All Clear” is issued, employees must be prepared to respond hastily, in concert, independently, appropriately – immediately, and decisively -- to minimize risks. Chapter 8 Active Shooter / Hostile Intruder: Preparations Introduction Roles and Responsibilities Violence Response Preparatory Phase Alerts, Notifications, and Communications Safe Rooms Now What? Think About This Chapter Again Ancillary 8 Hostile Intruder/Safe Room Practical Training Exercise Checklist Chapter 9 Active Shooter / Hostile Intruder: Action Think About This Chapter Characteristics of Active Shooters (Hostile Intruders) Five Phases of the Hostile Intruder (Active Shooter) How To Respond When An Active Shooter Is In Your Vicinity 1. Evacuate (Get Out) 2. Shelter in Place (Hideout & Safe Harbor Room) 3. Take Action Against the Active Shooter (Act Out) Important Points What If You Encounter the Shooter? When Law Enforcement Arrives Law Enforcement / Emergency Responders Conclusion Think About This Chapter Again Ancillary 9 Characteristics of the Active Shooter Responding to the real threat posed by the Active Shooter/Hostile Intruder is only effective when personnel can take advantage of time, circumstances, and immediate protective measures to minimize personal risk in evacuating, escaping, and/or taking shelter until the incident has been contained. While every effort will be made to minimize personal risk, employees will find themselves responding to the situation the best way circumstances and their personal situation will allow. Your safety and swift evacuation decisions are your ultimate priority. Remember that the safe room provides for a temporary shelter, requiring the cooperation of all personnel in the room. Note: Attempts to breach locked doors and disrupt command and control will expose all in the room. Managing the room will be critical until the All Clear is sounded.

What a refreshing approach! Definitely something that I think will have positive impacts in the long-term, building positive working relationships between frontline/management. Subsequently, it is something that will also carry over into high-quality and consistent service being delivered to the public and stakeholders 💯
Vigilant’s Operations Management Team has adopted a very new approach. We have committed to spending more time in the field, working alongside our staff, than is spent in an office. We may continue to work in the field on answering emails, phone calls & cover last minute shift requests, but we’ve committed to doing that while on the road and alongside our Guards at least 51% of the time. Why? The frontline where our employees work is where our value is created, not from behind closed doors. We recognize the importance of our employees needing mentorship, motivation and continuous on-the-job training, while also giving them to freedom to make mistakes and take ownership of their own success. Recently this point was driven home for us when our management style was explained to a new recruit. The Guard advised he had been working for a relatively young yet national security agency for the last 12 months. In that year, he had never met his supervisor, was not issued a uniform, just body armour and told to wear it over dark coloured clothing. No training, no guidance. This new Guard has expressed such excitement after meeting with our CEO directly he felt Vigilant would be the last place he would work until ready to apply for a career in policing. Aligning with our vision statement; We are constantly redefining the expectations of both a provider and employer. Having our Operations Managers and CEO himself spend more time in the field than is spent behind a desk reiterates that commitment. #security #securityguard #patrol #vigilant #kwawesome #ontariosecurity #protectionredefined

We’ve taken our show on the road, literally trying something new. Of course we can’t completely run a security agency while visiting our client’s properties, but we can come pretty close to a 50/50 split of our time in office vs frontline. The haters will say we aren’t busy enough, if we were as busy as them we couldn’t do it. I’d suggest for example, if you’re starting up 4 new hospitals at the exact same time, this is the only way to do it well. I might also reply with suggesting they take a significantly closer look at how time in the security agency office is actually spent, and re-evaluate the level of quality / value being delivered. By spending MORE time in the field than behind a desk, our management is; ✅ Building significantly stronger relationships with existing clients ✅ Networking and learning first hand the challenges our clients and their neighbours face ✅ Building unbreakable bonds with our Security Guards by learning what’s important to them & providing them with instant feedback and leadership ✅ Issuing carried supplies from notebooks to uniform replacements ensuring all employees are outfitted properly ✅ Ensuring continuity in service delivery. The same level of quality, every single day. ✅ Feeling connected to the value created by Vigilant reducing Manger burnout, lowering the number of overall emails received and for many, getting back to their roots in Private Security.
