Kenya has experienced devastating flooding in the past couple of months, with more than 228 people losing their lives, and 212,000 people losing their homes. Many organizations have been working with communities to provide life-saving relief and material help to support those affected, and BioLite, through the Rotary Club of Karen, has provided clean cookstoves and solar lamps to families in Gataka, Kajiado County, as they strive to rebuild their lives and homes after the impacts of the floods. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the ongoing efforts to help those affected. Lorraine ( LOLAINE) KirigiaLOWAKI ECO-SOLUTIONS LIMITEDRotary International

In times like these, among all despair and conflicting emotions, it is easy to get lost trying to place blame and find excuses or look for out-of-control explanations.
All this talk is meaningless when there are lives at risk.
Getting funds to the right people in some countries is also quite a challenging prospect, and LinkedIn is not the platform for such political agenda.
This link https://lnkd.in/gEU52v-H allows you to donate funds to NGOs that will help people. It doesn't bounce around, it will get to the people that need it. If you live abroad like me, the main link will not work. In the description there is a link to pay in USD via Stripe - use that if you don't hold a Brazilian paying method, it worked for me. As it is international, it is most likely not tax-refundable. So help with 5, 10 dollars if you can. Any help will help.
I could talk for hours and share my opinion on what led to that disaster, that's not the time. Please help.

Brazil floods leave 150,000 homeless, scores dead or missing!
I want to raise awareness among the Canadian community of the current floods in Southern Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul.
My hometown and the other 331 cities are wholly submersed, and the need for urgent help, donations and supplies is rising.
Thankfully, my parents and immediate family are safe, but the floods have impacted water and electricity services, leaving my parents and family and other 1.4 million affected overall.

ASK FOR HELP 🆘
Dear friends, 😦👇
As some of you are aware, our home state of Rio Grande do Sul in Southern Brazil is facing its biggest climate disaster ever. 💥
Since May 1st, we've been severely impacted by heavy rain, landslides and floods that have already killed 83 people and thousands had to flee their homes. Our capital city Porto Alegre has over 5 meters of water in downtown and suburban areas (please note that the Flood warning is 3 meters!). 🌏
To have a greater idea of the impact: of the state's 496 municipalities, over 330 have been directly impacted (nearly 1 million people). Over 100 bridges destroyed. 🏠
In the links below, you can have an idea of what is going on, it's a super serious situation.
Even Porto Alegre's international airport (POA) is underwater and closed until May 30. 🌨❄

Floods impact is expected to continue in some areas, as the weather forecast has incoming rain from May 8 onwards. 🌫
Our team's families and close friends are safe, but we are doing absolutely everything we can to help those who've lost their homes, a lifetime's work, and even the lives of loved ones. 🔔📌
WHAT IS MOST NEEDED NOW?
Drinkable water, Personal hygiene items, cleaning materials, medication, and pet food for cats and dogs. Food is under control with hundreds of volunteers cooking and prepping meals where they are most needed. ⚙
We know that, from afar, it's impossible to assist directly with such items. So... 🔧
HOW CAN YOU HELP? 🆘
Below is the official international donation link.
Whatever amount anyone can contribute will be much appreciated, considering we'll need billions of dollars to not only save lives but rebuild basically the entire state.

Convoy of Hope: Bringing relief to flood-stricken communities
In the aftermath of devastating flash floods that struck Kenya late last April, Convoy of Hope has emerged as a beacon of hope for thousands who have lost everything to the merciless deluge. With swift and decisive action, this non-profit organization has been on the ground, providing essential aid to families grappling with the aftermath of nature's fury.
Kenya, a nation currently grappling with the repercussions of the Indian Ocean Dipole weather phenomenon compounded by El Niño patterns, finds itself besieged by unprecedented heavy rainfall. The consequences have been dire, with 37 out of 48 counties in the country reporting flash floods. These floods have uprooted over 190,000 individuals from their homes, decimated agricultural lands, and rendered roads and bridges impassable, severing vital access to markets and essential services.

I have been devastated to hear about the floods in Brazil. The state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil is currently facing its worst flooding in history. Over 2.3 million people across 469 cities have been affected by heavy rains, leading to more than half a million individuals being displaced from their homes. The situation is critical, with further rainfall expected and temperatures dropping as winter approaches.
In response to this devastating tragedy, Howden has initiated a fundraising campaign to support the Brazilian Red Cross. Partnering with the Community Impact team and the Howden Foundation, we aim to provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the floods. The impacts of this disaster will be long-lasting, and the rebuilding process is anticipated to take years.
Your contribution can make a difference. Please join us in our efforts to support the Brazilian Red Cross by visiting the fundraising campaign link below:

Floods and fires its all part of climate change, please Anthony we need a national border carbon tax of 20 % to pay for mitigation/adaptation/and restoration projects, With current emissions @465 million tn per year multiplied by $20 per tn co2e = 9.2 billion dollars per year, that's a lot of solar panels, wind turbines, and battery packs, hydrogen ammonia electrolisers, Let's make Australia a leader in renewable energy, Let's produce our own solar panels, wind turbines, and nickel/hydrogen 50.000 cycle batteries as well as being a ; global leader in hydrogen/ammonia fertilizers production, And we have lots of desert lands that can be hydrated via large scale reticulation from coastal waters with water desalination/carbon sequestration/hydrogen ammonia hubs then pumped inland to agroforestry/biofuel/and food crops, We could produce 50 million barrels of biofuels per day boat, car , truck, and plane fuels half of the worlds current production all from low emissions carbon neutral biofuels
So not only do we feed and hydrate the people of the world we employ them as well installing belief in their selves, and creating a better quality of life for the people, , let's do it, let's lead by example,

Kay and Max lost almost everything in the devastating floods that hit Eugowra at the end of 2022.
When I visited the community then, homes had been torn from their foundations and pushed onto the street.
We said we’d do everything we could to help locals get back on their feet.
And we’ve done just that, supporting Kay and Max with a grant they’ve used for a deposit to rebuild their place.
“We’ll never forget the floods, but it’s not the major part of our life anymore,” Kay told me.
While the recovery in Eugowra continues, we'll keep providing support for residents and businesses doing it tough.
🚨 Urgent Call for Support: Rio Grande do Sul Flood Crisis 🚨

Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil's southernmost state, is currently grappling with the worst flooding in its history, intensified by the most recent rainfall. The disaster has claimed at least 83 lives, with 103 individuals still missing and more than 155 injured. More than 115,000 displaced residents, many finding refuge in temporary shelters.
The Guaiba River in Porto Alegre, a city where I spent my high school years, has reached a record 5.33 meters. The situation is dire, and the heartbreaking visuals and stories shared by my friends participating in rescue efforts are a call to action for all of us.
The floods have devastated 332 municipalities, destroying homes, roads, and bridges. El Niño's impact has exacerbated our climate's natural variability, leading to these extreme conditions.
Immediate relief and ongoing support are critical for recovery.
Your donation can help provide essential supplies and support the recovery efforts needed by those affected.
⚠️ Update from our disaster relief efforts in East Africa:
Devastating floods have impacted an estimated 1.6 million people in the past month, with nearly 500 lives lost and more than 400,000 displaced.
The danger doesn’t end when the floodwaters recede.
Last week, we sent chlorine generators and bleach makers to help up to 50,000 people in the region. With tanks already on the ground, this equipment will allow communities to access safe water and disinfectant for their homes.
Field consultant Daniel Dida shares, “WaterStep’s safe water efforts are very helpful in reducing diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery, which are prevalent at this time. WaterStep provides a hygienic environment. We are there as part of recovery.”
Help support our ongoing disaster relief efforts and bring hope to these communities by donating today. 💙
