Looking forward to visiting the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth to see Jaune Quick-to-See Smith's exhibition. From Jaune's website: "I am a cultural arts worker because I, not only, paint, do printmaking, some sculpture, draw, make collage, do public art, but I am also an independent teacher/professor and activist. I lecture, teach printmaking workshops, jury, curate, write and organize exhibitions for the Native community. In my work I use humor and satire to present narratives on ethical treatment of animals, humans and our planet. My work is philosophically centered by my strong traditional Salish beliefs."

Once upon a time, in a realm where entitlement flowed more generously than tea, a group of individuals embarked on a quest. They journeyed to lands, near and far, in pursuit of the most exquisite artifacts. Enchanted by these relics, they masterfully convinced the locals that their refined tastes and superior lifestyles uniquely qualified them to safeguard and showcase these treasures. Thus, they undertook the responsibility of transporting these handpicked artifacts to their abode. So truly magnanimous of them! Little did they foresee the twists of fate that lay ahead. Fast forward to the present, and enter the digital era! An era where information flows more swiftly than the winds that once carried their ships. An era which provides the perfect opportunity for "art enthusiasts" to use the magic of technology to "share" these treasures with others around the world. The irony is palpable, isn't it? Just as the original patrons felt entitled to hoard the treasures and enrich their collection, the present age's protagonists seem too eager to share these treasures with the world. How the turntables! In other unrelated news, the illustrious Director of the British Museum has gracefully stepped aside in the wake of a series of unfortunate incidents involving the unexpected vanishing of select artifacts (many of which were put on sale on Ebay), right from under the noses of the very establishment that declared them as their own for safekeeping. #digitalage #irony #museum #artefacts

The British Museum, notorious for its collection of "permanently borrowed" artifacts, is now showcasing a bit of audacity with its latest exhibition, 'Rediscovering Gems'. Picture this: the museum, which has a history of acquiring treasures in ways that would make a pirate blush, has now recovered some jewels previously pilfered from its collection by a light-fingered curator. And what do they do? They decide to put on a show! It's like celebrating the return of stolen goods that were, well, originally stolen. Cue John Oliver's biting take on the British "finders keepers" policy regarding treasures like the Kohinoor diamond: essentially a polite British "buzz off". Fast forward to today, and the museum is parading these twice-stolen treasures under the guise of transparency. It's a bold move, akin to throwing a party because you managed to snatch back the wallet someone stole from you, which wasn't yours in the first place. In a world where historical theft is just another Tuesday for some institutions, the British Museum's latest caper is either a stroke of branding genius or an act of unparalleled chutzpah. Perhaps, it's time for the original owners to consider an "exhibition loan" of their own treasures. Why 9:04? The question itself is meaningless out of context. On September 11, 2007 the New-York Historical Society and museum created one of the most poignant exhibitions I have seen, and I have seen many. It was entitled “here is New York: remembering 9/11” The punctuation is specific. It is not a sentiment with a beginning or end. Instead, it was a collection of artifacts found in the dust and remains of the Twin Towers. One of the pieces was a watch, mostly ripped apart and broken save for the numbers and hands on its face, reading simply 9:04. I have no idea who owned it. I have no idea what happened to them. I have no idea what their life was like at 9:03, or at 9:05, or any point before or afterwards for that matter. I never will. I just remember staring at this small time piece. My time had started rather recently working with the New-York Historical Society, and I am ever grateful for it. That would be my first real introduction both to New York’s museums and the collective memory of the City. That was 2007. I still remember the watch, and the captured time. Please join in the celebration and send us your video. We will post clips throughout the rest of the year on our many social media platforms. TIPS for making your own "I am Preservation" video. Say your name, and if you like, the neighborhood that you live in. Briefly comment on what you love about New York City landmarks or a specific historic building, place, or structure. And, finish by saying “I am Preservation!” Film in landscape mode (hold smartphone horizontally) If you can’t film yourself, maybe have a friend film you in front of a landmark or your favorite historic building or structure. Be aware of your surroundings (street-level noise, etc.) Check your lighting. If possible, you don’t want to be in an area that is too dark or too bright. Set up your shot (minimize things that might be distracting on screen) We are looking for short clips. Thirty seconds at maximum. Make eye contact, don’t forget to smile.
