AZAD had the privilege in volunteering at a local farm called Autism Mustang Alliance. It's always wonderful to find opportunities where we can support and contribute to our community while bonding with the team! Who knew spreading manure could be so fulfilling? #azad #azadtechnologypartners #volunteeringmatters

Good Morning LinkedIn Family, I have been given the opportunity to work alongside a colleague of mine, that helps disabled foster children and disabled adult children in group homes, who are aging out of the foster care system. When disabled adult children age out of the foster care system or group homes, they have little to no help in learning how to survive on their own. These disabled children and adult children have not been taught how to pay their own bills, take care of themselves, financial literacy, no job training skills, they are simply forgotten. We volunteered our time because I know the challenges of raising a disabled child, and the challenging needs that these children face even into adulthood. The financial strain and challenges can sometimes be too much for a family to bare, and to care for a disabled child from birth into adulthood. Working together for the good of these disabled children, now becoming adults our team was more than willing to help and work to file the applications for the following HUD grants for housing, job training, college preparation, and home ownership. Total in grants applied for $150,000,000.00 Approved funding to be allocated over the next five years. 1. HUD Housing-$18,000,000.00 2. OJT-$22,000,000.00 3. College Preparation-$10,000,000.00 4. Home Ownership Assistance-$50,000,000.00 Total-$100,000,000.00 Moral of this journey is: 1. We didn't give up even though some of the grant applications were denied, but we as a team got pretty close to the goal. 2. We came in with nothing, and close to the overall financial goal, we now have over seventy new top corporate sponsors, better organization leadership, the disabled children and disabled adults children are happy, and that's what matters. 3. Never give up, helping others that can't help themselves, giving back to disabled children and disabled adults in need and helping them succeed. #THEGRANTGURU #DISABLEDCHILDRENMATTER #DISABLEDADULTCHILDRENMATTER #BETTERHOUSING #GWOA #NEVERGIVEUP #GIVINGBACK

🖇STRATEGIC SATURDAYS🖇 This month I was honored to support the team of Royal Family Kids Anchorage by speaking at their annual fundraising and informational event, Night to Remember. This ministry serves children in foster care with some of the deepest trauma by providing a week in the outdoors surrounded by vetted, highly trained adults to help them have a normal childhood experience. We discussed 20 ways to support the foster care community (and only one of them involved being a foster parent). Why is this being posted under this “Strategic Saturday” series? Because caring shouldn’t be something we do “strategically”. Caring is a lifestyle. Caring is who we strive to be. Caring cannot be falsified (although some will try and some organizations do a good attempt at it). You know what caring looks like deep down. My encouragement today is to always advocate for the care of the least of these in strategic means. Use your abilities to advance those who have no voice. It’s the most fulfilling thing you’ll ever do. Keep Leading Forward, D. #fostercare #leadership #childwelfare #childadvocacy

Advocating for Autistic Rights Together 🤝 Today, I reflect on the pressing issue of rights for autistic individuals. 'Ambitious about Autism' stands as a vanguard, offering essential support and creating tailored educational opportunities to help autistic children and youth thrive. Their commitment extends beyond classrooms and into the 'Ambitious Youth Network,' fostering community and connections online. Allyship is key, whether you're supporting as staff, finding a community, or contributing through donations and volunteering. Highlighting the 'Me, My Autism and I' campaign, they also elevate stories of autistic women and girls. 'Ambitious about Autism' is more than a charity; it's a dedicated force for advocating rights and enabling brighter futures. #AutismAwareness #AutismAdvocacy #InclusiveEducation

❓ Do you know a #nonprofit supporting youth at risk, people with developmental disabilities or foster care families? 🤝 I'm interested in volunteering some time or serving on a board and these are my focus areas going into 2024. 🌍 Looking forward to continuing to put as much good into the world as possible. #developmentaldisabilities #fostercare #fosteryouth #youthmentalhealth #youthprograms #disabilities

Over 45,000 children across Australia grow up in foster care or residential care. These children have one thing in common: their homes were temporarily unsafe, and they required the support of their community to find sanctuary. Today is World #CareDay and this year we invite you to reflect on how you see young people in care, and what you can do to support them to overcome the adversity they've experienced through no fault of their own. MacKillop Family Services commissioned a survey that showed that 5 million Australians would consider becoming a foster carer but lack of information on foster care, and ongoing stigma are barriers to taking the next step. Consider the step that you can take - read about becoming a foster carer, consider volunteering or working in the sector, or help to remove a barrier by promoting information about foster care to your network. Today, on World Care Day, is the day to find out more and take the next step. Read about it at

This week is #LearningDisabilityWeek and did you know that 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability? People with this kind of disability often have trouble understanding complicated information, learning new skills and looking after themselves. So what are some of the most common learning disabilities? - Down syndrome - Autism - Williams syndrome - Fragile X syndrome - Global developmental delay - Cerebral palsy - Asperger syndrome Learning disabilities affect people through their whole life, but no two people are the same and each person will have different experiences and challenges. This Learning Disability Week let’s raise awareness by posting on social media, supporting charities and championing the carers across the UK that make such a big difference to the lives of people who have learning disabilities. https://lnkd.in/dP_RGAh #LearningDisabilityWeek #LDW2024 #LearningDisabilities #DisabilityWeek

Still shot of the #fosteryouth experience. Did you know that kids in care over 13 years old have a notoriously difficult time being placed in families? In most countries that use a foster care model, these "hard to place" kids are put in residential facilities. Kids are not meant to grow up in residential facilities. Period. Even still, they are there, and they need support. Lighthouse Transitional Care just started going into these places to teach kids essential life skills, but the more important goal is to connect them to safe and reliable mentors who can be there for them as they transition out of state-run residential care. #nonprofitleadership #impact #formerfosteryouth

We talk a lot about a sick child's right to continue their education and what the school should do to enable continuity. The school isn’t required to provide adjustments that would cause “unjustifiable hardship” to the school. This means that schools may sometimes say the cost of some levels of support is beyond the school’s ability to provide. But this shouldn't be the end of the story because connection is critical. Note, schools should be encouraged to seek additional funding from their Department or Disability education grant schemes. Our Seen&Heard Helpline Service offers parents and carers - and educators and health professionals - information on education support pathways and technology options to keep sick kids connected to their school community. #seenandheard #IfImissedschool #missingschool #educationequality #educationsystems #disabilitystandardsforeducation #sickkids #philanthropy #governmentfunding

Denver Academy, hosted the PBS public screening of “Rebecoming Me” in their new theater. This 30-minute journey through trauma and healing focuses on the profound experiences of five adults who navigated foster care as children. We learned through their experiences that the foster care system needs vast improvement! Advocates who helped with the film suggest we take steps to lean on government officials to make needed change. Among the changes; 1. Education - get schools directly involved in guiding each foster student step by step. Ensure these children feel seen, wanted and that graduation is expected. 2. Let foster children be kids - create childhood memories with funding for activities. (No one ever took photos of the individuals featured in the film as children.😢) 3. Give foster parents a voice in child rearing. 4.) Mentors for foster children. There are almost 4,000 foster kids in Colorado who need help, hope and healing.
