I briefly worked for a company that had daily stand-ups. Each day a different team would present. Customer Support: We resolved 325 tickets last week and our average resolution time was 3 minutes less this week. The tickets we are still working through this week are…. [and proceeded to talk about each open ticket] I needed toothpicks to keep my eyes open. 😑 It wasn’t Customer Support or any other team’s fault. It was the expectation set forth on WHAT to present and WHY we were presenting every day. Sadly, this is how I see a lot of QBRs/EBRs being run. “Here are some stats about the stuff we’ve done together so we can flex at how [insert positive adjective] we are and why you should renew/buy more.” Versions of this I’ve seen: ✉ How many messages you’ve sent through our platform! 📲 How many channels we support you sending through! 📦 How many parts we’ve shipped out for you! ⏲ Our on-time rate for your deliveries! 🔺 Our up-time rate for your platform! 🎟 Average response time for tickets you've submitted! Are we still seriously having QBRs/EBRs to tout things that are baseline just doing our jobs? QBRs/EBRs need to tie back to the meaningful outcomes. The WHATs and the WHYs. WHAT were their challenges before coming to us? WHY did they choose us to help resolve those problems? WHAT did we do during this [increment of time] to resolve this problem? WHAT was the outcome? WHY does this matter to them & their business (and why should it continue to matter)? WHAT other problems do they have that we can solve? WHAT is our action plan for doing so? WHY is now the time to renew / expand in order to solve these new problems? Make that 30-60 minute meeting count. #CustomerSuccess #Enablement #QBR #SalesEnablement #QBRs #EBRs

Having a pipeline full of new business opportunities is cool. You know what's cooler? Obsessing over building solid relationships with all your current clients and consistently over-delivering. What's really helped us solidify this is identifying our Queen Bee Role "QBR". Any decisions we make are filtered through our QBR and set of core values. It's not just about alignment—it's about driving client lifetime value (LTV) as high as possible. We've even made bold moves like offering free services or directing clients to competitors if they're a better fit. Why? Because for us, it’s all about maximizing client satisfaction, not just filling our portfolio. If the term QBR is new to you, I'd recommend "Clockwork" by Mike Michalowicz. It’s transformed our approach, helping us prioritize what truly matters. Have you identified your business' QBR or main metric yet? How has it impacted your decisions?
