Happy World Ocean Day 🐋🌏🌊🐚 World Ocean Day, celebrated annually on June 8th, is a global event dedicated to recognizing the importance of the ocean and the critical role it plays in maintaining the health of our planet. Initiated in 1992 during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, and officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008, this day raises awareness about the ocean's issues and inspires action to protect and preserve its vast ecosystems. The ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth's surface and is vital for human survival and well-being. It regulates the climate, produces more than half of the world’s oxygen, and supports a diverse array of life. The ocean is also a significant source of food and medicine, and its vast underwater landscapes contribute to the livelihoods of billions of people around the world. Despite its importance, the ocean faces numerous threats including pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, and climate change. Pollution, particularly from plastic waste, is one of the most pressing issues. Each year, millions of tons of plastic end up in the ocean, causing harm to marine life and ecosystems. These plastics break down into microplastics, which are ingested by marine organisms, entering the food chain and ultimately affecting human health. World Ocean Day aims to address these challenges by promoting sustainable practices and encouraging global cooperation. The theme for World Ocean Day 2024, "Planet Ocean: Tides are Changing," emphasizes the interconnectedness of ocean health and human well-being. It calls for a shift in how we perceive and interact with the ocean, advocating for integrated management of marine resources, and innovative solutions to restore and protect ocean ecosystems. Activities include beach cleanups, educational programs, policy discussions, and the promotion of marine conservation initiatives. By engaging governments, organizations, and individuals, World Ocean Day fosters a collective responsibility towards ocean stewardship. ♻️ There is no Planet B, so choose to protect the only one we have! 🦀🐬🐡🐙🐳🦑🐠🦈️ #WorldOceanDay #protectourplanet #ReduceReuseRecycle

🌊 Happy World Oceans Day 2024! 🌊 Did you know that June 8th marks the annual celebration of World Ocean Day? This special day was first introduced in 1992 by the United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of our oceans and the impact of human activities on them. Since then, it has become a global movement to promote the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans. So, what is World Ocean Day all about? It's a day to recognize the crucial role oceans play in our planet's ecosystem, from regulating the climate to providing half of the oxygen we breathe. It's also a day to acknowledge the devastating impact of pollution, overfishing, and climate change on our oceans and the creatures that call them home. But why should we care? The health of our oceans directly affects our own well-being. Rising sea levels, ocean acidification, and pollution can have severe consequences for our communities, economies, and environment. That's why it's essential to be aware of the issues and take action to protect our oceans. At TOMA-Now | Tomorrow Matters Now-Now, we're committed to promoting sustainable practices and strategies that benefit the environment. We believe that every small step counts, and that's why we're joining the global movement to celebrate World Ocean Day. Here are some ways you can join us: · Reduce plastic use: Make a conscious effort to reduce your plastic consumption and recycle as much as possible. · Support sustainable fishing: Choose seafood from sustainable sources and support local fishermen who practice responsible fishing methods. · Get involved in beach cleanups: Join local beach cleanup events or organize your own cleanup initiatives to help keep our oceans free of trash. · Spread awareness: Share your knowledge with friends and family about the importance of ocean conservation and the impact of human activities on our oceans. 🌊 Happy (Belated) World Oceans Day! 🌊 We know we're a bit late, but that's because humans are running late to save our oceans! Our oceans are in crisis, and every day counts. Here are some shocking facts that remind us why we can't wait any longer to act: 🐠 90% of big fish populations are depleted: Our overfishing habits are pushing marine life to the brink, affecting the entire oceanic ecosystem. 🐡 Nearly 50% of coral reefs have been destroyed. Coral reefs are not just beautiful; they are crucial for marine biodiversity and protect coastlines from storms and erosion. 🗑️ Over 8 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year. That's similar dumping a garbage truck full of plastic into the ocean every minute. 🌍 Oceans produce over 50% of the world's oxygen. They are our planet's lungs, and their health directly impacts the air we breathe. 💧 By 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish. This is a dire warning that we must heed and act on immediately. What does this mean for us? If the oceans die, we die. Our food, climate, economy, and very survival depend on healthy oceans. It's not too late to turn the tide, but we must act now. Reduce plastic use, support sustainable seafood, and raise awareness. Let's protect our blue planet for future generations. Join the Peace Gong Fellowship to learn about how we can act to save the oceans, marine diversity, and the future. #WorldOceansDay #SaveOurOceans #ActNow #ProtectOurPlanet #OceanConservation #ReducePlastic #SustainableSeafood Remember, every little action counts. Together, we can make a big difference! 🌊💙
