On Monday we celebrate Memorial Day, remembering those who served our country and those who made the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedoms. The Battlefield Cross, alternatively referred to as the Fallen Soldier Battlefield Cross, Soldier's Cross, or just Battle Cross, is a symbolic replacement of a cross, or memorial marker appropriate to an individual service-member's religion, on the battlefield or at the base camp for a soldier who has been killed. It is made up of the soldier's rifle stuck into the ground or into the soldier's boots, with helmet on top. Dog tags are sometimes placed on the rifle, and the boots of the dead soldier can be placed next to the rifle. The purpose is to show honor and respect for the dead at the battle site. The practice started during World War I, as a sign of respect for those that gave their lives in combat during wartime. Today, it is a means of showing respect for the dead amongst the still-living members of the troop. It is commonly seen in the field or base camp after a battle, especially among American troops in Afghanistan or Iraq. While it is used less today as a means of identification, it still serves as a method of mourning among the living, as attending the funeral is not always possible for soldiers still in combat. This explanation is from Wikipedia with additional explanation from my son, a Marine Corp veteran, who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan in 2011-2012. I captured this memorial on Constitution Ave & 23rd Street, Washington, DC May, 2021

As Memorial Day unfolds, it's more than just a day off or a time for barbecues. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and honor the sacrifices made by those who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces. It's a day to acknowledge the debt of gratitude we owe to those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom and way of life. Memorial Day is a time to remember not only the soldiers who have fallen, but also the families they leave behind. It's a day to recognize the immense sacrifices made by military families, who endure long separations, frequent moves, and the constant fear of the unknown. But amidst the somber reflections, there is also room for gratitude. Gratitude for the freedoms we often take for granted. Gratitude for the quality of life we enjoy, made possible by the dedication and bravery of our armed forces. And let's commit ourselves to ensuring that their sacrifices were not in vain. Let's work to build a world where freedom and justice are not just lofty ideals, but lived realities for all. Let's strive to create a future worthy of the legacy left to us by those who have gone before. This Memorial Day, let's remember, let's reflect, and let's give thanks. But let's also recommit ourselves to the values & lets ensure a brighter future for generations to come. #MemorialDay #Gratitude #RememberTheHeroes #RememberAndReflect

Memorial Day is every day for me, so it's unusual to make a post about it but it seems like I should do it. Today is different I suppose as I find myself reflecting on the true meaning of this solemn occasion through this mornings meditation. It's a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Not just them either, but those who survived them - my goodness. As a veteran, this day holds profound significance for me. It's a reminder of the selflessness and valor displayed by my peers, a few of whom never returned home. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and it's our duty to ensure that their legacy lives on. This Memorial Day, I'll pay tribute to those who gave everything for our nation. Whether it's visiting a memorial, attending a ceremony, or simply reflecting on their memory, let's honor their service in whatever way we can. But let's also remember that Memorial Day is not just about looking to the past; it's about recognizing the ongoing commitment and sacrifice of our military members and their families. Let's support them in any way we can and strive to build a future worthy of the sacrifices made by so many. To my fellow veterans, I salute you. And to all who have lost loved ones in service to our country, you have my deepest gratitude and respect. If you know a veteran today, specifically those in combat related jobs (Infantry, medic, enginner), know that they're trying. We come from a place much different than where they are today if they've discharged. If they need help - please, share my information! #veteran #army #infantry #combat #PTSD #anxiety #adjustmentdisorder #realestate #business #commercialrealestate #investing #diversify #build #grow #challenge #results #service #professional #modesto #california #ca #stanislauscounty #centralvalley #investor #invest #REI #passiveincome #turlock #sacramento

On this Remembrance Day, a significant date etched deeply in our consciousness, we pause to reflect and honor the brave souls who served - and continue to serve - around the world. This day carries a weight of gratitude and respect that extends beyond borders and generations. Let us unite in silence, not just to mark the cessation of the First World War, but to acknowledge the sacrifices and valour of our servicemen and women in all conflicts since. The poppy on our lapels symbolizes our collective memory, a poignant reminder of the blood that continues to be shed for our freedoms. In this spirit of unity and remembrance, I encourage all of you to take a moment to honour our heroes. We remember, not to glorify war, but to acknowledge its cost and to ensure that such sacrifices are never forgotten. Show your support by attending local ceremonies or perhaps consider a donation to veteran support organizations. A Soldiers Poem I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and did that which others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness...should I fail. I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold of fear; and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment's love. I have cried, pained and hoped... But most of all I have lived times that others say were best forgotten. At least someday, I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was... a SOLDIER. Today, we remember and honor the many who stood in the shadows of conflict, embodying courage and resilience. Their sacrifices paved the path of peace we walk today. Here are ways we can honor these fallen heroes: 1. **Reflect on Their Courage**: Read and share poems like the one above, which capture the essence of their journey and sacrifice. 2. **Visit Memorials**: Take time to visit local memorials and pay homage to the fallen. 3. **Educate and Share**: Teach the younger generation about the significance of this day and share stories of heroism. 4. **Support Veterans**: Engage with and support veterans' organizations in your community. 5. **Observe a Moment of Silence**: At 3 PM, pause for a national moment of remembrance and reflection. Let us carry their legacy forward with pride and ensure their memories and stories continue to inspire. 🌹 Remember And Honor #MemorialDay #Sacrifice #HonorAndRemember #Marmon #Duty #Honor #Country

Memorial Day, from the perspective of a veteran, is a solemn day of remembrance and honor. It’s a day to reflect on the sacrifices of those who have fallen in the line of duty, protecting the freedoms and values we hold dear. For veterans who have experienced the realities of war firsthand, Memorial Day carries a profound significance that goes beyond the typical celebrations and gatherings. It’s a day marked by memories of comrades who never made it home, whose laughter and courage are remembered in the quiet moments of a veteran’s heart. It’s a time to think about the families left behind, the empty seats at dinner tables, and the personal stories of bravery that ended too soon. Veterans understand the weight of loss and the price of freedom in a way that is deeply personal and often painful. Memorial Day is not about the living; it’s about honoring those who have given their lives for something greater than themselves. It’s about the men and women buried in cemeteries across the nation, who were more than just soldiers; they were loved ones, friends, and family. For veterans, the day may also bring a mix of emotions, including pride in their service and a sense of camaraderie with those who understand the cost of war. Yet, it can also be a challenging time, as the focus on military service and sacrifices can trigger memories and emotions related to their own experiences. As a nation, we can honor the true meaning of Memorial Day by participating in commemorative activities, observing moments of silence, and supporting organizations that provide resources and support to veterans and their families. It’s a day to ensure that the legacy of the fallen is not forgotten but is carried forward with respect and gratitude for the freedoms their sacrifices have secured.

I consult and provide specialty expertise on making plain the edges & challenges of program management, workforce agility, performance improvement, & cybersecurity. I know, I’m narrowing that list down.
MEMORIALS AND MOMENTS A single instance, can last a lifetime. That's what a day like Memorial Day means. Those moments where lives were forever changed, that can't be unchanged. Where lifetimes are cut to their shortest thread. Memorials are personal monuments -- individual reminders of the last and full measure taken. Often, those moments are chosen. The last breath held, before taking the last jump into the fray. Humanity is built and measured on that pause, that space, before everything is taken away. Before the times turn black. But there are also stories of those moments not chosen. Where there was no room for choice -- because the enemy had made the choice themselves. The enemy gets a vote -- & their vote, carries the ultimate & terrible cost. Memorial Day is the moment to remember those who were on the end of both of those timelines. We all hope to measure life in long days and long decades. To look back on our own works & marvel at what we accomplished. But days like these, are where those who can't marvel at their achievements -- must be seen through the eyes of the survivors. It is through these eyes -- upon this horizon -- where we can remember. Where we hope to never forget. Memorial Day is the stark, public reminder to remember what shouldn't be forgotten. While we build upon that past and stand among those souls -- it's a moment to remember, appreciate, and return to what that sacrifice meant. To celebrate today, in a single instance, is to remember the lifetimes lost in singular instances. #memorialday #military #coastguard #veteran

Snapped, Wreath Laying. Offering flowers at a memorial site is a ritual that occurs around the world, symbolizing the beauty and brevity of life. Floral tributes are made each day at Arlington National Cemetery — at funeral services, public ceremonies, and individual visits to a loved one's gravesite. For even though on Veterans Day, November 11, we rightly honor America’s veterans, we gather in solemn respect — mindful that we are guests here; mindful that we share this hallowed space with a family’s moment of quiet grief; mindful that many veterans not far from here are tracing their fingers over black granite for friends who never came home. Below, President Barack Obama lays a wreath during a Veterans Day ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11, 2016. Formal ceremonies at Arlington often involve the laying of a wreath. These ceremonies typically take place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, attended by ceremonial units from the uniformed services. The most solemn ceremonies occur when the President of the United States, or the President's designee, lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to mark the national observance of Memorial Day, Veterans Day, or some other special occasion. Ceremonial wreath layings also occur during state visits of foreign dignitaries, who pay formal respects to the sacrifices of America's veterans by placing a wreath before the Tomb. Wreath layings by other public figures and organizations take place at the Tomb or at the scores of other memorials throughout the cemetery, although most are not marked with the same ceremonial pomp of the state events. These include annual observances by veterans' groups and special events such as the dedication of a marker or the commemoration of an anniversary. To all our nation’s veterans: Whether you fought in Salerno or Samarra, Khe Sanh or the Korengal, you are part of an unbroken chain of men and women who have served our country with honor and distinction. A proud and grateful nation thanks you. #Politics #VeteransDay #Veterans
