__________________________________ 🇬🇧 Are you already looking forward to the stubble fall this year? 💥🌱 With our universally applicable Cenio, you are ideally equipped for the upcoming stubble fall. Hungarians' popular Christmas dish is getting cheaper this year There will be plenty of fish on offer at Christmas. The rainy weather has contributed to fish producers achieving better results this year than last year, according to the president of the Hungarian Aquaculture and Fisheries Industry Organization (Ma-Hal). Producers are selling fish at 10-12 percent lower prices this year, explained István Németh. The consumer price of carp on the market and in outlets is between 1,700 and 2,500 forints (4.48-6.58 euros) per kilogram, while catfish costs between 4,000 and 6,000 forints (10.53-15.79 euros). A kilogram of perch costs 7,000-8,000 forints (18.43-21.06 euros). In Hungary, annual per capita consumption of fish - almost half of which is eaten at Christmas - is 6.5 to 7 kilograms, compared to an EU average of 22 to 23 kilograms. In countries with sea, such as Spain, France and Portugal, fish consumption has a tradition, which significantly increases average consumption, said the Ma-Hal president. In Hungary, 22-24 thousand tons of carp are produced annually for human consumption. The fall fishing season is still underway, so total numbers are not yet available, but production is expected to be 15-20 percent higher than last year. https://lnkd.in/dDSkzS4X #fishfarming #aquaculture #carpfish

Austria's pigs should have a better life, consumers and the Constitutional Court demand. Two farmers show how it could be done and are now keeping their animals in tents in a field. Sounds simple, but it's extremely complicated. The majority of Austria's 2.7 million pigs live on bare concrete floors, perforated with elongated slits through which feces and urine flow into manure tanks. In stables, lit by artificial light, with around 0.7 square meters of space per pig. In the media discussion, this completely slatted floor attitude is synonymous with the torment of industrial factory farming. According to Statistics Austria, 70 percent of pigs in the country were kept this way in 2020, and industry experts assume 90 percent. The first victim of this attitude is the curly tail, which only exists in children's drawings. In reality , piglets are docked almost without exception, despite an EU-wide ban that only allows exceptions - but those in narrow, fully slatted pens are becoming the rule because the piglets' urge to explore often leads to their neighbor's tail, which they nibble on. https://lnkd.in/d_ZRFxkE #swineindustry #swinefarming #pork #porkmarket #pig

Adapting beech stands to clumate change and drought using the deep rooted, shade bearing Silver fir to aid moisture uplift. Deer browsing increase is also a key takeaway point to consider as deer may tip the economic balance. Also applicable to anyone thinking about agroforestry, deeper rooted trees can help provide water uplift from lower soil horizons in times of drought. sihttps://lnkd.in/ewSeVqbZ

Crop Management Tillage. Health care. With catch crop management, you promote your soil fertility and make seedbed preparation easier. With Güttler rollers. Much easier What to do? Successful catch crop management through repeated rotation of the catch crop with a Güttler roller: 1.) Roll in autumn, at the latest for flowering. The overturned catch crop - Nourishes soil life - Prevents erosion 2.) Rolling in winter in case of frost (if possible<) - Facilitates subsequent seedbed preparation 3.) Rolling before seedbed preparation - Reduces blockages during seedbed preparation and sowing Maximum increase in your soil fertility at minimal cost! #49 176 46763604

Peat extraction does take place in previously undrained areas! An in-depth investigative journalistic study reveals what the peat lobby furiously denies: Peat bogs are freshly drained for peat extraction. The fairy tale that the peat used in gardening and horticulture only comes from previously drained agricultural land with little to no ecological value is impressively falsified. Some key findings: - Only a small proportion of the substrates are used for food production; the much larger share is for luxury products like ornamental plants - The peat industry likes to use the ridiculous argument that ‘only’ 0.4%’ of Europe´s peatlands are currently under extraction. The picture shifts if we look at the damage that drainage causes before and after extraction. In Estonia, two-thirds of all peat bogs are damaged due to peat extraction - The industry artificially delays re-wetting by shifting production to adjacent areas. Some of the re-wetting is paid for by the taxpayer instead of the extracting industry. - Re-wetting of extracted peat bogs can stop the CO2 emissions due to peat oxidation, but can´t restore an intact peat bog. The destruction that this open pit mining process brings to a landscape is too all-encompassing. See here the English translation of the Article by Ingrid Gercama, Nathalie Bertrams and Tristen Taylor: https://lnkd.in/efcWkePR The article is based on interviews with Karin Bodewits of Turfvrij, Philip Testroet of Industrieverband Garten e.V. Today is #WorldSoilDay, and the Office fédéral de l'environnement OFEV has prepared some very interesting dossiers on the following topics: - Zero net soil consumption - Soil mapping on a national scale The focus is on achieving zero net soil consumption, underlining the critical need to preserve soil resources. The dossiers highlight the negative impacts of soil consumption, such as habitat loss and reduced agricultural productivity, urging sustainable land use practices. The Swiss Territorial Data Lab (STDL) is currently running a project with the Etat de Fribourg - Staat Freiburg aimed at defining a methodology based on deep learning to map the canton's soils in detail. Let's unite for responsible soil management to ensure a healthier planet and a sustainable future. 🌱

The war in Ukraine has set the Ukraine's agriculture sector back by years, especially after gains made in developing healthier and organic crops. This war has raised food and energy prices and contributed to economic and food instability in several regions of the world. For now, it's a deal of great importance to build capacity for mapping, monitoring and managing environmental risks of critically affected by the war Ukrainian agricultural lands.
