You may know us for our highest quality auto parts and innovative technology, but one of the most important facets of our company is our commitment to communities across the globe. AISIN is actively involved in local philanthropic efforts and already this month we have participated in several major and diverse activities that have made significant impact. We have been supporting the Living and Learning Enrichment Center (LLEC) in Northville for several years as they enhance the lives of local youth with autism and other disabilities. Through therapeutic, social, work-based, and community engagement, LLEC seeks to support, enrich, inspire, and embolden their participants and families. LLEC is quickly becoming the nation’s model in supporting the highest quality of life for people with disabilities, and events like their recent Hopes and Dreams Gala make it possible. A cumulative $425,000 was raised in a single evening! This astounding amount will directly support our programs, helping individuals with disabilities live meaningful and fulfilling lives. Furthering the support of youth in our community, our North American sales headquarters regularly supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan (BGCSM) which provides a safe space for youth to learn and have fun, while providing them with the economic, cultural and social capital needed to become career, start up and homeowner ready. BGCSM recently hosted its 45th annual Automotive Golf Classic at the historic lndianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion, Michigan as a team of our executives and customers took to the course for a good cause on a gorgeous day. Since 1980, this premier annual golf event has raised more than $20,000,000 to serve 21,000 youth annually. While our North American operations are robust, we never forget our Japanese roots from our origin nearly 60 years ago. Our support of The Japan America Society (JAS) ensures the legacy of our heritage. JAS is dedicated to strengthening the ties of friendship between the Japanese people and the citizens of the Greater Detroit and Windsor area and to assist in developing a common understanding of economic, political, and cultural diversity. AISIN members and their families recently attended the JAS annual dinner where they experienced cuisine, culture and camaraderie in celebration of our global reach and strong relationships. These are just a few of the numerous activities taking place worldwide as our members continue to amaze us with their dedication and support to philanthropic activities. Just as we are tireless in our efforts to innovate mobility, we are also working year round to improve the world, one community at a time.

What would you do with a $100,000 donation? As part of its social commitment, iA Financial Group is kicking off the seventh edition of its Canada-wide philanthropic contest to support charities in the health, environment, education and social services fields that propose a promising educational project. From September 12 to October 16, the charities that submit the most inspiring proposals that answer the question “What would you do with a $100,000 donation?” will share a total of $500,000 to carry out their project or pursue their mission. “Education is a powerful force to reduce poverty, improve health, promote equality and support wellbeing in our society. This year, we're encouraging organizations to submit a promising educational project that will have a real impact on people's lives. Education is the future, and we're thrilled to help build that future through this contest,” explains Denis Ricard, President and CEO of iA Financial Group. The submission period closes on October 16, after which a total of twelve charities will be selected by committee and announced to the general public on November 7. The public will be invited to vote for the projects they find the most inspiring. Participating charities are divided into four geographic regions (Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada/the North) to ensure an equitable distribution of donations across the country. The four charities that receive the most votes will each be awarded a $100,000 donation. The remaining finalists will each receive $10,000. The winners will be announced between December 11 and December 14. Contest details and the complete list of eligibility criteria are available at donations-contest.ia.ca.

Liberty Memes Foundation is partnering with the Mobility Independence Foundation to improve access to wheelchairs and other mobility equipment! Mobility is the most basic need that enables us the access to live a full, productive, and happy life, and you can't do that if you're trapped in your own home. Persons with disabilities need to be able to hold a job, parent our children, to travel and enjoy all the gifts this world has to offer. Mobility equipment users want a chair that they can take off-road, off-sidewalk, and still maneuver effectively through their home. There is no power wheelchair currently on the market that meets these needs to enable persons with disabilities to live their full and best lives. The Mobility Independence Foundation will develop designs capable of doing each of those tasks. The goal of Mobility Independence Foundation is to provide accessibility designs and completed equipment to the world in an open-source, easy-to-license format. This will allow people with disabilities to access equipment better suited to their needs, because we listen to their needs. Our open-source designs will be available for individuals to use, improve or customize for their own accessibility needs. The MIF will perform its work in four steps: Create an open-source modular design for a mobility wheelchair that can be built using off the rack parts. Provide the open-source designs to the community, so that providers worldwide can utilize the designs. Provide equipment and components to those who need it most. Through outreach to disabled communities, get real feedback about the features that are needed for mobility equipment, design modular upgrades, technological components, or custom parts that will meet the needs of individuals with unique needs. Thank you for your interest in the Mobility Independence Foundation and for your consideration of support for our mission. Liberty Memes Foundation & the Mobility Independence Foundation are both 501(c)(3) charitable non-profits, and all contributions will be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law

Calling out Solve - MIT and other organizations —philanthropic or otherwise: please uphold yourselves to the principles of equity, transparency and compassion you demand of us—the organizations leading community building and humanitarian work. Community funders, philanthropies and governments are asking for applications from us—the community builders and humanitarian orgs. These applications and competitions take away the time, energy and focus community orgs and our teams need to do the actual work of protecting communities and advancing health and human rights. These application processes also put communtiy organizations against one another. In a world of multiple and interdependent crises, philanthropies and donors need to be promoting and backing systems of collaboration. Consistently community funders and philanthropies ignore and dismiss the needs of community building organizations who take time to apply and play the ‘game-show’. Yet the same networks and donor orgs are quick to take credit when something is nominally impactful. To not offer feedback and follow up on applications from community orgs is outdated, and goes against transparency and equity. Do better, and respect those of us working day in and day out community building at a time of increasing emergencies and crises in the world. If you expect us to take our time to beg for funds and attention, the least the donor world can do is provide feedback and transparent compassionate communication. I’m done with the inequity and ‘ game-show’ framework of philanthropy and donor organizations. People are suffering. As a leader and community builder it’s important I be honest and call out outdated and power- imbalanced systems. I suspect I may lose support from donor and philanthropic orgs for this truthful post. But to stay silent would mean I’m not the leader I thought I was. This 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 Mohsin Mohi Ud Din has dedicated nearly two decades to creating a profoundly #healing #collective, #community model often with very little funding and recognition for his brilliant work. It has been an extreme labor of love for humanity. If you want to support a grassroots organization dedicated to global healing, please donate to #MeWe International Inc. I’ve worked with him directly and have witnessed the transformative impact of his methodology. The donor model for funding micro grassroots healing organizations has to change. Micro grassroots organizations are the engines for innovation in healing and many are hanging on by a thread financially: either overlooked by donors or simply don’t have the time to to develop excessively long applications (which can sometimes be 100 pages for less than $5k). Or worse, their work is co-opted at the most superficial level by larger organizations and packaged as a “programming niche” to get funding. Community healing micro organizations have deep origin stories for their work. If you want to truly understand the depth and validity of an organization’s healing methodology, ask for the origin story. This is not a programming niche. It’s deep work.

📍 Only 2 percent of philanthropic funding reaches local leaders. Many foundations that want to increase their funding to local organizations struggle to do so – Lever for Change can help! Our model works to elevate bold solutions that may be overlooked by traditional philanthropy. Thanks, Alliance magazine for including Lever for Change and our VP, Philanthropy, Dana D. Rice, in this article about funding local leaders. Read the article and full list of recommendations for supporting local organizations: https://lnkd.in/ggeNFwSg

As a grants professional this is a topic that I have been reflecting on lately. The charity model of disability has a long history in philanthropy and it is completely unnecessary and outdated. Your fundraising narrative doesn't need to be centered around "doom and gloom" scenarios to be successful. Grant makers should ideally focus on supporting positive outcomes (employment, education, quality of life, etc.) rather than viewing disability as a problem in need of fixing.
