- There are several federal laws in place that are designed to protect the health and safety of workers. Again, many of these laws may transfer into the virtual world of work in the metaverse, however, there are a host of new issues that can arise. Therefore, it is critical that HR leaders are aware of some of the new challenges to employee health and safety that may emerge in this space and that may compromise the psychological and physiological safety of employees. As an example, during the pandemic, we learned that a new phenomenon emerged called Zoom fatigue which was attributed to a presenteeism, mental fatigue, exhaustion, anxiety, muscle tension, eye strain, feelings of isolation, and other implications to mental health.
