Wildlife Biological Technician II

Summary of Work

Responsible for performing wildlife development, operations and maintenance activities on District II Wildlife Management Areas in the central part of the state which includes Sheridan, Wells, Foster and Eddy counties. Employee will be expected to make independent decisions regarding WMA management. Duties involve biological, mechanical, and chemical control of noxious weeds; fence construction and repairs; prescribed fire management; operation and maintenance of heavy equipment to establish food plots, grass plantings and road maintenance; operation of welders and shop power tools; assisting with wildlife surveys and trapping operations; involvement in the Department's wildlife depredation program; participate in CWD monitoring, research and prepare educational material on wildlife resources and other duties as assigned. Employee will be required to work independently out-of-doors often in extreme weather conditions. Employee will be required to work at other locations in the state as required and travel up to four nights per week (meals and lodging will be reimbursed per policy). Coordinate seasonal employee work schedules and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree OR an Associate's Degree in wildlife biology or wildlife management or closely related degree with at least 2 years (24 months) of directly related wildlife field experience.The position requires demonstrated knowledge applying principles of wildlife biology, habitat relationships and land management. Applicants must have or be able to obtain a Class D North Dakota driver's license. Applicants must have work experience in shop machinery, tools, basic carpentry, equipment operation and maintenance. Must be able to operate UTV's and 4x4 ATV's, tractors and spray equipment. Must be able to load and move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds. Applicant must possess or be able to obtain a Class A ND Commercial Driver's License, successfully complete the basic wildland fire training course and become a certified restricted use pesticide applicator within 6 months of employment.The individual must possess well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, be highly responsible, be well organized and have attention to detail. Must have the ability to work with private landowners, farmers/ranchers, other wildlife management professionals, wildlife groups and the general public. Must be self-motivated and adaptable to a fast-paced work environment. Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word and Excel).This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check.

Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology or wildlife managementKnowledge and experience using computerized databases.Knowledge and experience welding.Knowledge and experience in the Department's wildlife depredation program.Knowledge and experience in the biological, mechanical, and chemical control of noxious and invasive weeds. Work experience in the operation and maintenance of pesticide sprayers.Work experience using fire pumpers.Experience operating and maintaining tractors, skid steers, grain and grass drills, corn planters, trailers, dump trucks and fire equipment.
