Vice President for Government and Community Relations

Job Summary

The Vice President for Government and Community Relations is responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic government advocacy and community relations efforts at the local, state, and federal levels for University of Vermont Health Network. The Vice President will identify opportunities to advance the system's key areas of focus, with a particular emphasis on partnerships with key community leaders and stakeholders. The Vice President serves as a public liaison with external elected officials, groups and partners and oversees external strategic engagement. Working across internal administrative and clinical departments, this position develops external relations and advocacy initiatives designed to enhance the reputation of the not-for-profit academic health system as a leader in health care delivery in the region, as well as advancing the role of the system as an approachable and responsible partner – both locally and regionally. This position works closely with the Vice President and leadership team of the Department of Communications and Engagement Strategies on organizational message development and reputation management, ensuring messaging and work plans are aligned. The Vice President collaborates with internal partners working in external relations, including Communications and Engagement Strategies, Development, and other partner-specific external-facing departments. In addition to reporting to the Chief External Relations Officer, this position works closely with, the Presidents of Network partners, Network Senior Leaders, Network and partner Boards of Trustees, and the Chief Executive Officer.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Relations or related field required.

Experience

Demonstrated professional experience at a senior level in areas cited in knowledge. Ten years in an administrative or leadership role in government, communications, community relations or related fields.
