Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II (61036992)

Job Responsibilities

Performs repairs on vehicles and equipment. This includes overhauling engines, repairing/replacing cylinder heads and transmissions. Repairs and replaces power brake units, master cylinders and power steering pumps using specialized tool and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment to include oil changes, tire repairs, greasing and servicing hydraulic systems and fuel systems. Operates wrecker and makes equipment repairs in the field during service calls that require repair before movement of equipment. Performs welding to repair equipment. Maintains a safe and clean shop work area and ensure all work is done within OSHA and DHEC compliance. Assists in shop operations during after hour emergencies and inclement weather operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

One and one-half (1.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
