Job Responsibilities

Performs duties as a certified inspector and maintains SCDOT/SCDHEC certification in two of the following specialized areas: SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician; SCDOT Earthwork, Drainage and Base Inspector; SCDOT Concrete Field Technician; SCDOT Pavement Preservation Level 1 and / or SCDHEC Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector. Measures, calculates and records quantities of installed contract pay items in the field and enters the information in to Site Manager and / or ASSHTO Ware daily work reports for accurate contractor payment(s). Documents daily construction related activities and field measurements on standard inspection forms in electronic format. Submits documentation and reports on a daily basis. Responsible for inspecting daily work performed by contractors on highway and bridge construction projects in various disciplines including but not limited to asphalt and concrete paving, earthwork and base construction, construction of concrete structures, erosion control and prevention. Makes sure all contract pay items to be installed according to the Contract Special Provisions, Plans or Standard Specifications. Notifies the contractor and direct supervisor or the RCE of any issues that occur on project site and ensures conflicts are resolved in an appropriate manner. Maintains an open line of communication with direct supervisor about the day to day operations on the project. Monitors work zones on assigned projects to ensure traffic control devices are placed according to SCDOT and deficiencies and/or safety issues, and ensures deficiencies are corrected immediately. Enter sampling data into Site Manager / ASSHTO Ware and Sample Log and tracks until results are received. Prepares all necessary construction reports, including wage interviews.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible

engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable

equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with

the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months directly related experience. The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
