We’re so glad you are interested in the Supplier Development Engineer. This hybrid position will be based out of Byron Center, MI, Hazel Park, MI, Milwaukee, WI, Mayville, WI, or Fond du Lac, WI. As the Supplier Development Engineer, you will lead and drive supplier development projects within the MEC supply base to improve processes, systems, and performance. You will support the Strategic Sourcing Team to ensure key suppliers are providing the highest value possible to the organization by implementing toolsets centered on continuous improvement, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and project management. A Supplier Development Engineer will utilize assessment/auditing skillsets to identify gaps with strategic supplier partners, provide solutions, and manage implementation and effectivity of improvements to obtain optimal value for the enterprise.

Supplier Development Strategy and Execution Supplier development activities within MEC allow us to work closely with our suppliers and assist in driving their improvement efforts. As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will lead projects focused on

  • Launch readiness and APQP
  • Improving process control
  • Improving quality systems
  • Improving product quality
  • Improving supplier delivery
  • Reducing costs
  • Reducing lead-time
  • Improving productivity
  • Increasing capacity


Project Management Supplier Development projects are not easy! Problems in today’s supply chain are complex and have a lot of variables to factor and manage. You’ll need to understand the variability, identify stage-gates, and provide the leadership and communication skills to help all parties involved reach their goals. This requires strong project management skills!

  • Supplier Communication We like our suppliers. They are our business partners. You’ll work with suppliers ensuring they buy into development projects with leverage and support from the Strategic Sourcing Team. Suppliers should show a willingness to change and improve but may not understand the path to achieve the desired results, you’ll be the leader to help show them the upside potential!
  • Teamwork You’ll need to be a good teammate. Working cross-functionally with Procurement, Materials planning, Quality/Engineering, Sales, and key stakeholders at a supplier will be vital to the success of this individual. Results of successful supplier development projects are exciting and beneficial to all parties involved and you’ll be the catalyst for success!


BA/BS degree in a business-related field, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Operations Management, or equivalent. Or possesses an Associate’s degree with at least five years of experience in supply chain work activities.

Ability to travel up to 25% of time. MEC’s supply-chain is primarily based within the US, with many suppliers located in the greater Midwest region.
