About the Position:
Under general direction of the Chief, Office of Traffic Safety Programs (Division of Traffic Operations), as first line supervisor to have charge of varied and difficult transportation engineering work involving the supervision of engineers and others engaged in traffic safety investigations and analysis, preparing studies and initiating safety and operational improvement projects for urban area locations. The incumbent (Urban Area-Traffic Safety Branch Chief) is responsible for working together with the rural area Traffic Safety Branch Chief.
Traffic Safety Investigations – This function performs analysis of collision concentrations, maintains the file of collision reports for every collision on a State highway in the District, and advises other functional units within the District regarding collision information; identifies, does analysis, and recommends programming to the District and Headquarters for safety projects. Performs investigations and responds to complaints on highway safety, provides collision data for reports and fact sheets, represents Traffic on Capital Project Safety Reviews. Participates on HQ sponsored statewide safety teams and committees and may participate in the Traffic Safety Academy and other trainings, as a safety expert.
