Senior Test Engineer

SUMMARY:

Test and inspection of TUV Rheinland of North America’s clients’ large industrial machines, electrical systems, electrical equipment and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Maintain responsibility for completing all aspects of regulatory compliance testing and reporting on client products using IEC/EN/UL/CSA & SEMI standards and providing expertise in evaluating products in accordance with regulatory standards for product certification and field evaluation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES ND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead client projects; Meet test objectives by determining testing methods and selecting testing equipment. Ensure customer test criteria is correctly interpreted and applied. Interpret and apply applicable test standards.
  • Perform tests for certification of equipment to applicable domestic or international regulatory standards and regulatory compliance regulations; advises customers of non-compliance.
  • Develop test strategies and test plans to verify standards, compatibility, functionality, performance and reliability.
  • Validate proper design and operations of product features as defined by functional specifications.
  • Report and track defects found during testing. Record test data, technical information and other details. Generate and revise test documents and reports (SOP’s, datasheets, methods, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain professional relationship with customers.
  • Participate in and promote process improvements. Participate in creating and evaluating new product test requirements and test strategies.
  • Liaise with other global laboratories to ensure consistency and accuracy of methods and interpretations.
  • Identify, qualify and present solutions based on customer business and technical requirements
  • Coordinate and guide clients on test events, procedures and requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of NEC, CEC, provincial and local electrical codes, UL/CSA/IEC/ EN and SEMI standard governing electrical systems, machinery and equipment
  • Experience with standards including NFPA 79, UL508A, IEC/EN/UL/CSA 61010-1, UL 2011, EN 60204-1, EN ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA R15.06, UL 1740, SEMI S2 & S8. Experience with EN ISO 13849 & IEC 62061 for functional safety preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills, to support the ability to relay complex industry, engineering, and technical information in a clear, concise, and understandable manner, interact professional in all situations with internal teams/team members and external client teams and prospects.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to travel to client/prospect, industry events, training, other as required. Valid driver’s license and valid passport required. Travel may be up to 50 -70% of time

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related science field or equivalent education and/or experience.

Experience

  • 7 years of test experience evaluating products in accordance with product regulatory standards or 5 years’ experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related technical field
  • Experience using automated test tools.
  • Experience testing to NEC, NFPA, UL, CSA, IEC, EN Standards preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office, manufacturing, construction/port and laboratory environments.

Equipment Used

  • Personal Computer and electrical test equipment.

Travel Required

  • Travel to client’s facilities, technical meetings, and TUV labs required. Valid driver’s license required
