Senior Property Controller (Semi-remote 2 days)
A very successful commercial real estate owner/operator seeks a Senior Property Controller to oversee a team handling property financial operations.
Senior Property Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial reporting and property accounting review functions for a portfolio of commercial office and retail properties. In addition, the Controller will have ongoing contact with the principals, senior management, and will interface with legal, insurance, and certified public accounting firms.
The ideal candidate will have experience and business acumen to reverse inefficiencies, optimize organizational controls, and drive cost savings. Excel in staff development and deliver continuous improvements to enhance operations. The ideal background will have 15 plus years of experience with increasing responsibility, with at least 5 years of experience at Controller or higher level, as well as thorough working knowledge of all aspects of commercial property management accounting and GAAP.
Responsibilities:
- Implement, manage, and review the timely preparation of financial statements in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including preparation of all supporting documentation in accordance with various reporting deadlines determined by operating and loan agreements.
- Present, review, and coordinate the annual budget process (OPEX).
- Analyze and report to the senior leadership team the actual vs. budgeted financial results.
- the accounting team regarding financial reporting, acquisition and disposition of assets, corporate and property accounting, lease administration, tax compliance, treasury, internal control compliance and accounts payable/ receivable.
- the quality of financial results through reorganization of the accounting functions and development of the team.
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with required financial policies and procedures.
- Ensure company compliance with various loan covenants.
- Facilitate the completion of annual audits and tax returns while serving as lead liaison to external auditors and tax consultants.
- Participate in strategic and long-term planning.
- Perform other duties and complete special projects as required from time to time.
Qualifications:
- 15 plus years of experience working with sophisticated owner/operators of commercial assets.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with advanced degree and/or CPA preferred.
- Knowledge of IFRS Conversions, Waterfalls, Debt Covenant Calculations, Straight-line Rent, Calculating OPEX is preferred/ required.
- Superior management, leadership, and development skills.
- Proficiency with Yardi or MRI software preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent problem solving and multi-tasking skills required.
- Ability to think strategically and analyze data.
- Comfortable with face-to-face communications with ownership and the executive team.
- Willingness to be “hands on” as and when required.
Compensation: $180,000 - $200,000 plus bonus, 401k match and comprehensive health benefits.
The above salary range represents Advice's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible base compensation range at the time of posting and is not reflective of the total compensation package, which may also include benefits, equity and other non-cash incentives.
