Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and highly organized Cost Engineer to support the management of large healthcare construction projects in San Diego as an owner's representative. In this role, you will leverage cost engineering experience while assisting in coordinating all aspects of the project lifecycle. Your efforts will support cost management, budget validation, value engineering, and project management activities. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for contributing to the successful delivery of healthcare facilities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compile and update program forecast and cash flow using inputs from the contractor, architect, equipment planner, owner, and others
  • Highlight and analyze monthly variances between planned and actual spend, updating forecasts as necessary
  • Track progress of VE efforts and update reporting and cost forecasts
  • Prepare costs report for management and executive review
  • Review change orders for cost accuracy and conformance with contract requirements
  • Monitor project budget throughout the project lifecycle, identify potential cost overruns and implement strategies to mitigate risks
  • Provide support for financial risk management, update risk logs and documentation
  • Review pending commitments against planned values
  • Track compliance for cost related items from the construction and design teams
  • Facilitate effective communication among project stakeholders, including healthcare administrators, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Assist in addressing client needs and concerns promptly to ensure satisfaction and project success
  • Prepare and distribute regular project updates and reports to stakeholders


Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction project management
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in project management software and industry standard tools (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, eBuilder, Bluebeam)


Candidate Differentiators

  • California healthcare experience
  • Cost estimating experience
  • Data analytics and data visualization experience (e.g., Power BI, etc.)


Working Conditions

  • Flexible work environment with typical work schedule from 8:00a – 5:00p
  • Ability to travel to various construction sites within the San Diego area
  • Ability to walk, stand, and navigate uneven terrain for extended periods
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, and access tight spaces as required
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to safely navigate construction sites and identify potential hazards
  • Tolerance for working in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-stress situations


Employment Status

Full-time salaried/exempt


Pay Range

$95,000 – $125,000 annual salary

Offered salary will be based on factors such as skills, experience, and education or training.
