Position: Senior Project Engineer

Location: Irvine, CA

Onsite/Hybrid: 100% Onsite

Position Description

The Senior Project Engineer supports the Vehicle Design Studio that is responsible for the development and delivery of disruptive capabilities and products. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with mature technical management skills. The ability and willingness to roll up their sleeves as a technical contributor is also needed at times. The candidate must work well in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment as well as strong communication skills with customers and contractors to affect the implementation of system requirements.

Required Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Experience leading small to medium size engineering teams in aerospace or defense projects.
  • Experience leading testing, data analysis to support model improvements and root cause investigation of failures and implementing design improvements
  • Document designs and analyses with written reports, presentations, and Engineering drawings for multiple audiences (engineering, technicians, customers, executives)
  • Characterize, analyze, test, and troubleshoot system hardware and software subsystems
  • Architect and develop comprehensive, reusable simulation and analysis tools for model-based control and estimation designs
  • Interface effectively with users, customers, management, and other engineering personnel
  • Proven team leadership skills to include mentoring and advocating for positive change
  • Ability to create and follow standard processes and clearly document results


Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Proficient with first principal sizing methods of multi-disciplinary aircraft systems
  • Knowledge of aerodynamic stability and control modes, models, concepts, and coefficients
  • Working knowledge of basic aircraft aerodynamics and performance
  • Experience in designing robotic and aircraft systems
  • Military and/or UAV experience is a plus
  • Experience developing technical scope and Basis of Estimates for proposals


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or EE/CS with an aerospace controls emphasis. Masters 7-10 years of developing aircraft as a system.
  • Clearance Level Required: US Person Required; Security Clearance Not Required


Travel: Up to 10%

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Must have the ability to stoop, stand, climb, and occasionally lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
  • Involves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate.


Working Conditions:

The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment with little or no physical discomfort, such as a general office environment, to an environment where inclement weather may be subject to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc.

Security Clearance:

It is an essential requirement for the person in this role to be a US person and be eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization and DoD Clearance.

Salary: $165k- $200k

Salary depends on relevant work experience, education, training, essential skills, and/or other factors such as specialized or high-demand professions. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus.
