Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to design and implement large data communications and telecommunications networks. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and monitoring the installation of communication circuits, managing local area networks (LANs) and associated equipment, and conducting both short-term and long-term planning to meet communications requirements. This role involves performing hardware/software analyses, preparing tradeoff studies, generating network monitoring/performance reports, and recommending network design changes for improved system availability and performance.

Duties:

• Design and implement large-scale data communications or telecommunications networks.
• Plan and monitor the installation of communication circuits.
• Manage and monitor local area networks (LANs) and associated equipment (e.g., bridges, routers, modem pools, and gateways).
• Conduct short-term and long-term planning to meet communications requirements.
• Design and implement LANs/WANs using hub switching and router technology.
• Perform hardware/software analyses to provide comparative data on performance characteristics and suitability within the existing systems environment.
• Prepare tradeoff studies and evaluations for vendor equipment.
• Generate network monitoring/performance reports for LAN/WAN utilization studies.
• Recommend network design changes/enhancements for improved system availability and performance.
• Utilize network analysis/management tools and techniques.
• Maintain familiarity with IT technology and manage long-distance and local carriers.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related scientific or technical discipline.
• Certification as a network engineer for the specific network operating system (if applicable), as defined by the State task request and determined by the network operating system vendor.

Experience:

• General Experience: Minimum of nine (9) years of experience in a computer-related field.
• Specialized Experience: At least seven (7) years of progressive experience in planning, designing, implementing, and analyzing data or telecommunications networks.
• Proficiency with network analysis/management tools and techniques.
• Familiarity with Personal Computers (PCs) in a client/server environment.
• Knowledge of IT technology and management of long-distance and local carriers.
