Senior Fiber Engineer/Telecommunications Engineer

PSE's IT Infrastructure team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Senior Fiber Engineer/Telecommunications Engineer position!

Job Description

  • Provides the planning, design, acquisition and implementation of the company’s fiber optic telecommunication infrastructure. Evaluates business requirements to develop and implement solutions. Conducts project planning, cost analysis and vendor comparisons.
  • Researches, recommends and designs new configurations and enhancements to existing telecommunication network, providing consulting advice to team lead and management. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

  • This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works with project manager to develop realistic work estimates, financial budgets and project schedules. Participates in mid to long-term telecommunication systems planning.
  • Reviews project deliverables for accuracy. Provides cost/benefit analysis on intermediate projects.
  • Participates in evaluation of vendor proposals.
  • Updates or creates documentation based on work performed.
  • Effective in relationships with business partners, professional peers, and other team members.
  • Works with IT professionals and managers, primarily within own department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) year degree or certification in a technology-related field or equivalent combination of education, work experience or relevant military experience, and at least four (4) years of experience in related field.
  • Four (4) years of technical telecommunications experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in related planning, analysis, configuration, installation, management, and coordination work.
  • Ability to manage projects, including schedules, resource allocations and budgets.
  • Experience leading and participating in internal and external teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex systems, solve problems, and multi-task.
  • Knowledge and experience with IT infrastructure, MPLS, data, voice, Telco, concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of subject matter within telecommunications, with a basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • MS Office skills.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and technological leading edge developments.
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within telecommunications field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of Utility infrastructure and field practices.
  • Financial analysis capability to assess feasibility of projects and decisions.
  • Working knowledge of National Joint Utilities Notification System (NJUNS)
  • Experienced in acquiring Right-of-Way permits and easements.
  • Working knowledge of Traffic Control Plans.
  • Ability to lead on-site pre-construction meetings.
  • Basic knowledg of Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping tool.
  • Working knowledge ordering Outside Plant/Telecommunication materials.
  • Current knowledge of NESC codes.
  • Knowledge of ADSS design and implementation procedures.
  • Knowledge of fiber splicing, terminations and post install testing.
  • Ability to conduct post installation analysis and execute punch list items with contractors.
  • Working knowledge of ordering ADSS material procurement and issuing to field resources.
  • Working knowledge of Forced Relocating fiber facilities as it relates to municipalities Right of Way

The pay range for this position is $96,200.00 - $169,300.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
