Position Overview: As the Chief Estimator, you will lead our Estimating team and play a pivotal role in shaping our project bids and proposals. You’ll be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for manufacturing, construction projects, and services, providing crucial insights to assist management in making informed bidding and pricing decisions. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Historical Data Collection:
Gather and analyze historical cost data to estimate costs for current and future projects.
Client and Vendor Consultation:
Collaborate with clients, vendors, and team members to discuss estimates and resolve any issues.
Estimate Preparation:
Develop comprehensive estimates to help management plan, organize, and schedule work efficiently.
Blueprint Analysis:
Examine blueprints and other documents to prepare detailed time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
Project Coordination:
Coordinate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on cost estimates and project scopes.
Lead walk-throughs, pre-bid, and scope clarification meetings.
Team Leadership:
Guide junior staff in performing take-offs and obtaining subcontractor quotes.
Escalate critical issues to the Preconstruction Manager with resolution recommendations.
Additional Assignments:
Undertake additional assignments as directed by executives.
Budget Development:
Create budget estimates using plans, specifications, or conceptual information.
Bid Management:
Complete and review bids promptly to ensure profitability.
Provide clear and unambiguous estimating data, including drawings, specifications, and labor hours.
Pricing Adjustments:
Determine pricing adjustments for overtime, delays, and special requirements.
Document Preparation:
Develop RFQ/RFP documents for subcontractor proposals and vendor bids.
Internal Meetings and Documentation:
Lead internal kick-off meetings and maintain project information flow and documentation.
Collaboration and Database Maintenance:
Work with team members to meet specific project sector needs and maintain the estimating database.
Qualifications:
4+ years of construction industry experience.
High School diploma or GED required; a Bachelor’s or Master’s in engineering or construction preferred.
Strong knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
Proficiency in Accubid, MS Word, and Excel.
Design-Build experience preferred.
Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Familiarity with Accubid, project management, and construction software.
