Job Title: Senior/Lead Transmission Line Engineer
Reports to: Manager III, Transmission & Distribution Engineering
Location: Remote/Work from Home
COMPANY INFORMATION:
PowerWright is a full-service engineering and construction/project management firm that provides value-added design solutions for electric utilities throughout the United States. Our services include power delivery (Transmission and Distribution lines) engineering, electric Substation and Protection & Controls (P&C) engineering, construction and construction/project management, drafting, permitting, system development, and others PowerWright is focused on developing value-added partnerships with our clients to help in the delivery of safe and reliable energy.
JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent will be responsible for the detailed engineering design of high voltage
(Transmission 69 - 500 kV) power line projects. These projects include entire new facilities and significant additions, rehabilitation, replacement, clearance, and reconductoring of existing electric power lines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering
- Determines and documents project estimate, scope, and schedule; sets and evaluates design options and criteria
- Works with clients and construction contractors to develop the best design
- Proofs of in-house engineering projects. Attention to detail required Manages project e-files for projects within the department
- Provides thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations
- Continually improves job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance
- Serves as a mentor for younger engineers
- Periodically conducts field visits to collect data
OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Attends work as scheduled, for up to 8 hours at a time, 5 days a week, in a remote location within the United States.
- Prompt and regular attendance at all work related meeting (virtual or in-person)
- Ability to work shifts beginning as an assigned, designated start time until an assigned, designated end time
- Ability to complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner and as specified
- Ability to interact with employees and customers/clients in an appropriate manner
- Exhibits and maintains the highest degree of professionalism in the performance of all related duties
- Ability to receive and understand directions from supervision and management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
5-10 years of experience in designing transmission lines
BS degree in civil/structural or electrical engineering
PE Registration preferred
Structural design and geotechnical experience required
PLS CADD and PLS-Pole experience required. PLS-Tower, PLS-Caisson experience is a plus
Experience with foundation design software such as MFAD and LPile is a plus
Proficient in MS Excel and other MS suites of products
Experience in utility-based construction and operations are pluses
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Managerial and leadership skills
Great attention to detail is required
Ability to work independently and think analytically
Work as a strong team player
Effective time management and logical decision-making ability
Strong focus on quality
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct reports.
TRAVEL:
This position requires occasional travel (5-10%) associated with field site visits for data collection and verification.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This job operates in a professional office environment requiring routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, electronic devices such as tablets, printers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, as well as the use of common office applications such as MS Office (including extensive use of video communication and collaboration platform), and internet-based filing system.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk and drive. The employee must fly (commercial airlines) to existing and potential clients' locations, conventions, meetings, etc. Manual dexterity is required. Some light physical effort is required.
