The High Mountain Institute seeks two Co-Directors of the HMI Semester for a summer 2024 start. These senior leadership positions report to the Head of School and, together, oversee the management of all aspects of HMI’s fall and spring high school semesters, including academics, co-curricular, and residential life programming, student support, and faculty oversight. The Semester Director of Students & Residential Life leads HMI’s efforts to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing community to HMI Semester students, faculty, and apprentices. Working closely with the Semester Director of Academics & Faculty, this position oversees semester community and residential life programming, including family communication, student support, health services, and the HMI kitchen. A lead administrator, this position serves on the administrative team, periodically serves as on-call administrator, and participates in semester life as an advisor, faculty on duty, and wilderness instructor as needed.

Position Responsibilities:- Co-lead, with the Semester Director of Academics & Faculty, all aspects of the HMI Semester
- Serve as the HMI Semester’s lead administrator for student and residential life
- Oversee the HMI Semester advisory program
- Coach faculty, apprentices, and advisors in best practices of student care and mentorship
- Manage and/or oversee calendar and daily operations of the semester
- Coordinate communication with students and families before, during and after the semester
- Compile and manage non-academic student information
- Take a leadership role in HMI’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, focusing on student experience
- Teach an academic course and/or co-lead two 10-12 day wilderness expeditions annually, as needed
- Serve as a member of HMI’s administrative team
- Competitive compensation, dependent on experience ($60,000-$75,000 annually, inclusive of housing)

BA or higher, 3-5 years prior teaching experience, experience/interest in leading backcountry expeditions, prior experience in management or supervision or others, enthusiasm for working with teenagers in a residential setting, evidence of passion for intellectual, wilderness, and community pursuits, desire to live in Leadville, CO (90 miles west of Denver, at elevation 10,000’), ability to obtain and maintain current WFR & CPR certifications, and completion of criminal and driving background checks.
