Scientist I/Study Director - Ophthalmology

Major Responsibilities

  • Refine and/or customize models to meet client requests.
  • Interface directly with clients and internal customers to understand the needs and deliverables, and define appropriate strategies that will achieve the scientific goals
  • Act as a role model to junior colleagues by demonstrating effective communication and project management
  • Study Director role and responsibility according to SOPs of studies with basic complexity
  • Generates study protocols, study amendments and study timelines;
  • Generates IACUC protocols, IACUC amendments, IBCs and may serve as the SD on IACUC protocols;
  • May participates in the proposal management and budgetary process;
  • May orders materials and supplies as required for projects;
  • Generates study calendars (and matrices if applicable);
  • Directs study performance including the oversight of primary technicians and the QC of data;
  • Reviews, interprets and presents data with assistance from senior scientific staff as applicable for assigned studies;
  • Generates Data Submissions, Final Reports and/or Summary Reports with assistance from senior scientific staff;
  • Provides technical and scientific guidance to the technical and research staff; may assist in training of personnel;
  • Performs necessary technical procedures to keep skills current;
  • Proficient in general eye anatomy and physiology as well as multiple disease indications for the eye;
  • Able to perform ocular exams in rodents, rabbits, and NHP as well as complex ocular routes of administration
  • May present posters and other data in conferences and/or meetings, which includes occasional travel
  • May review/edit company guidelines and SOPs.
  • May serve as a contributing member of the IACUC
  • Comprehends procedures and performs tasks according to company policies and SOPs
  • Complies with all regulatory guidelines, occupational health as well as health and safety programs, in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as required
