The Department of Mechanical Engineering at CSU is a key player in the university’s academic landscape. With 46 faculty members, 13 staff members, 1,000 undergraduate students, and 150 graduate students, it stands as one of the largest and most productive departments on campus. State-of-the-art labs provide hands-on experience for undergraduates, while annual research expenditures exceeding $13 million offer groundbreaking opportunities for graduate students, particularly in areas of health science, materials science, and research on energy and environment.

The ORBL is an interdisciplinary group consisting of faculty from the College if Engineering (all disciplines), College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and School of Biomedical Engineering. The mission of the ORBL program is to improve health, fight disease and aid persons with disabilities through merging engineering and life/biological sciences. The faculty has special interests in the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and neurological systems. This position will primarily involve orthopaedic and musculoskeletal research.

Position Summary

The Orthopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory ( OBRL ) within the Mechanical Engineering Department at Colorado State University seeks to fill a full-time (40 hours/week) professional research position. This position will assist with sample preparation and biomechanical testing including sample procurement from necropsy, sample prep, x-ray capture, range of motion testing within the OBRL . In addition, they will assist with data analysis and report generation and maintain and update laboratory protocols, standard operating procedure manuals, and quality control/assurance measures.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced team environment;
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Good Laboratory Practices ( GLP ) environment;
  • Experience with materials testing and biomechanical testing protocols;
  • Experience working with animal models and knowledge of basic research methods; and
  • Experience writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), mechanical testing equipment maintenance, mechanical testing equipment calibration and validation.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience with data analysis and report writing.
