Renewable Fuels Professional Engineer

Job Position Summary

We are looking for a Verification Engineer with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license with alternative fuel production technology and process engineering experience to join our greenhouse gas (GHG) verification team. They will be responsible for reviewing renewable fuel producing facilities operations, life cycle analysis, and performing environmental audits under various low-carbon fuel programs, and technical assistance for engineering review.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and enthusiastic about renewables and will be able to contribute to the development of environmental audits by assisting Lead Verifier and Senior Engineer, onsite inspections of renewable fuel production facilities and reviewing operational data and mass and energy balance and GHG emission calculations. There will be opportunities to work across various technologies such as biofuel, renewable natural gas, hydrogen, and electric vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Performs GHG validation and verification projects, in accordance with California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Oregon’s Clean Fuel Program, Canadian Clean Fuel Regulations and other GHG verification programs.
  • Assist in EcoEngineers’ engineering review process by reviewing mass and energy balance calculations, verifying data to ensure compliance with regulations, conducting site visits, and writing technical reports.
  • Develop methods/assessments to meet verification requirements and evaluate risk levels, data samples, and compliance systems and plans.
  • Identify, investigate, and respond to client non-conformance questions and issues.
  • Actively contribute to building assessment capability through activities such as evaluation and exploration of new methods, improved project management, better document sampling and record-keeping, deeper industry insights.
  • Work may also include in field activities, such as GHG verification site visits, facility inspections, field meetings on engineering-related issues, collection of samples, etc.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in process engineering, especially those related to the renewable energy industry.
  • The position involves effective communication, decision-making, and time management.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of work experience in the fuel production and process engineering is required, experience in emissions technology, life cycle analysis, low carbon transportation fuel production is preferred.
  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or other relevant technical degrees from an accredited college required
  • Currently holds a Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience interpreting and preparing process flow diagrams (PFDs) and process descriptions
  • Experience performing mass and energy balance calculations especially in greenhouse gas or other air emissions inventories development is preferred
  • Skilled in writing technical reports, proven ability to manage complex information, simplify and convey it in easily understood ways.
  • Ability to be an active team member on project teams towards project completion within project scope, budget and schedule and ensure quality work product and deliverables.
  • Self-starter with solid attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing the most pressing and impactful matters
  • Strong computer skills relevant for data processing and analysis. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software, specifically advanced-level Excel.
  • Effective written/verbal communication, enjoys working in a multi-functional team-oriented environment
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently. Some travel is required to support a wide array of projects and clients
