Production Scientist - RNA Biology and Genome Editing

New England Biolabs (NEB) is inviting applicants for the position of Production Scientist in the rapidly growing field of RNA Biology and Genome Editing. Reporting to the Group leader and in close collaboration with the members of the RNA Biology and Genome Editing Group, the individual in this position will be primarily responsible for supporting the manufacturing of both existing and new, cutting edge RNA Biology and Genome Editing products.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare formulations of RNA Biology and Genome Editing products and related reagents.
  • Perform product-specific quality control (QC) protocols and collaborate with QA/QC and Applications & Development on the development of new product-specific QC assays.
  • Work with the Production Planning team to coordinate product manufacturing needs to meet the forecasted demand schedule.
  • Fulfill OEM/Bulk custom orders and collaborate with Customized Solutions team members to support new custom opportunities.
  • Adhere to protocols and maintain proper documentation.
  • Gain expertise and assist customers with technical inquiries about RNA Biology, especially in vitro transcription
  • Assist in troubleshooting product-related issues and participate in root cause analyses.
  • Work in collaboration with Research and Applications & Product Development groups to transfer new products into Production for commercialization.


Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry or related discipline with 4+ years of hands-on experience with RNA, RNA synthesis, or RNA modifying enzymes required. Advanced degree (with 1-4 years of experience) preferred.
  • Knowledge of RNA modifying enzymes and in vitro transcription required.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, including enzymatic assays, gel electrophoresis, in vitro transcription, DNA/RNA purification, radioactivity incorporation assays.
  • Experience in nucleic acid analysis using Bioanalyzer or Fragment analyzer.
  • Recognized as a team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and perform effectively under pressure with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, including good lab notebook practices.
  • Proven “good hands” at the bench and an ability to perform careful and consistent experiments.


Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in the life science industry preferred.
  • Experience working in an ERP system (i.e. SAP) preferred.
