We are seeking a full-time Pathologists' Assistant to join our dynamic team. With over 200 physicians across various specialties, including pathology, anesthesiology, orthopaedics, and more, We Partners provide expert care throughout Maine and eastern New Hampshire.

Position Overview

Under the guidance of a pathologist, the Pathologists' Assistant will support surgical specimen processing, frozen section preparation, and post-mortem examinations at our sites of service. This role is based in Portland, Maine at Maine Medical Center, our state's largest medical center, with occasional travel to other locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the gross examination of surgical specimens, ensuring accurate submission of tissue for microscopic analysis.

Process frozen sections and maintain timely delivery to pathologists, utilizing digital workflows when necessary.

Participate in specialized protocols such as renal biopsies, pediatric tumor studies, and autopsy pathology under supervision.

Contribute to research activities and biobank initiatives, ensuring proper specimen handling and documentation.

Primary Duties

Maintain equipment and ensure a clean work environment conducive to efficient pathology operations.

Engage in professional growth through participation in pathology conferences and continuing education.

Foster positive relationships with team members, pathologists, and facility staff to uphold a collaborative work environment.

Uphold professional standards and patient care excellence at all times.

Qualifications

Master's degree from an NAACLS-accredited pathologists' assistant training program preferred.

Pathologists' Assistant (ASCP) certification or eligibility.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to patient confidentiality.

Proficiency in Epic Beaker, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software applications.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

Exposure to infectious materials and hazardous chemicals, managed through universal precautions and protective equipment.

Potential for prolonged standing or sitting, manual dexterity, and visual acuity required for specimen handling.

Occasional travel to various clinical service sites may be necessary.
