Pathologist Assistant, First Shift, Pathology Department

UC Health is hiring a part-time Pathologist Assistant for the pathology department for first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Pathologist Assistant provides assistance to Surgical Pathology attending and residents in the areas of staff education, specimen processing, dictation of gross descriptions, frozen sections, collection of materials and autopsy functions.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's degree in science or related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree.
  • Certification through American Society for Clinical Pathology required.
  • Minimum Required: 1-2 years equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: 3-5 years equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

  • Engages in population appropriate communication.
  • Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
  • Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Process simple and complex surgical specimens for histology.
  • Dictate gross descriptions of simple and complex surgical specimens.
  • Cut and stain frozen sections.
  • Assist pathologist in collecting and documenting materials for tissue procurement.
  • Assist with Morgue Deiner duties/responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the assigned Pathology staff's appropriate policy, procedure, protocol and safety training related to the staff's work area and job responsibilities.
  • Provide education and appropriate training for the assigned residents, medical students and participants in sponsored public community events as necessary.
