About the Position:

We are seeking an engineer experienced in both manufacturing processes and packaging development. The ideal candidate will design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures to support daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality in our awning production area. Additionally, support will be provided to multiple manufacturing locations within the Land Vehicle Americas segment to execute packaging projects from concept through commercialization for the products being produced in our factories. These packaging projects will focus on finished good shipments from our factories to our customers. This position reports to Director, Operations Footprint Planning and is located in Elkhart, Indiana.




General responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the manufacturing team to support engineering activities in both production and pre-production projects for manufacturing and packaging related topics.
  • Continuously search for and evaluate cost savings ideas through a variety of means, including lean manufacturing techniques and appropriate capital spending.
  • Performs complex work measurement studies and line balancing activities for both new product introduction as well as for current products to support factory personnel planning.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing and packaging related process improvements to drive improved productivity and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing processes and equipment problems as well as new and existing packaging problems.
  • Oversee testing for packaging components including line tests, trials, ship tests, and other forms of analysis to validate packaging improvement ideas.
  • Serve as packaging specialist on cross-functional project teams providing input and working toward technical timelines.
  • Generate and modify manufacturing process and packaging documentation.
  • Work with cross functional teams to transfer new products efficiently and effectively into manufacturing.
  • Investigates various options and develops layout proposals for new and current processes to optimize manufacturing efficiency.
  • Provide direct technical support in problem solving production and packaging issues to prevent re-occurrence (part & assembled product quality dispositions, interim containment actions, root cause analysis, validation, & implementation).
  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • May offer technical assistance to technicians as needed.
  • Perform other related duties


Requirements and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an assembly manufacturing environment with experience in packaging development.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent
  • AS400 and D365 knowledge a plus.
