Position Overview:

The Chatham Group: Advanced Materials and Technologies Recruiting Firm is seeking qualified candidates for a Packaging Engineer on the R&D Team for a client in the rigid and flexible packaging and container solutions industry. This role focuses on designing and developing packaging solutions that serve as standalone products. That is to say that the packaging is the product, you are not designing new packaging for use with existing products. You will be a part of either the rigid packaging or flexible packaging team, each focused on meeting market demands, enhancing user experience, and aligning with overall sustainable manufacturing goals. The ideal candidate will have a background in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Science, Polymer Science, or other highly relevant field.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, design, and develop innovative packaging solutions, both rigid and flexible, that serve as primary products.
  • Conduct research on new materials, technologies, and packaging trends to drive the development of cutting-edge solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure packaging designs meet performance, cost, and sustainability criteria.
  • Create prototypes of packaging designs and conduct rigorous testing to ensure they meet industry standards and customer expectations.
  • Analyze test results and iterate on designs to optimize performance and functionality.
  • Manage multiple packaging development projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with project goals.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and other stakeholders to ensure the feasibility and scalability of packaging solutions.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including specifications, test reports, and user guides for packaging solutions.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Drive initiatives to develop sustainable packaging solutions that minimize environmental impact.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements to continuously improve packaging designs and processes.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-10+ years of demonstrable experience
  • Proven experience in packaging design and development, with expertise in both rigid and flexible packaging.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, manufacturing processes, and testing methods.
  • Expertise with blown film production, extrusion coating, extrusion lamination, roto/flexo printing, etc..


Relocation assistance will be provided to qualified candidates and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
