As a Network Systems Engineer at Aetos Systems, the candidate will contribute to the development of network design packages, implementation, testing, reliability, and operational engineering for multiple Kennedy Space Center (KSC) network systems including Ethernet, Carrier Ethernet, Optical Transport Network (OTN), T-Carrier, and fiber optics. Additionally, the candidate will also participate in laboratory analysis and testing of new equipment and configurations.
This is a represented salaried position with the IBEW Union.
Duties/Responsibilities
Responsible for engineering for the following network switch types: ethernet-based distribution switches (Juniper and Transition Networks) and Ciena carrier ethernet-based core switches.
Research and define "off the shelf" solutions supporting system development
Work closely with customers and Product Teams to ensure system requirements are met
Develop precise material and labor estimates to fulfill project requirements
Procure materials and components that align with system specifications
Maintain communication with Manufacturers and Suppliers to meet project deadlines
Coordinate with Drafting team members to create and update detailed system drawings
Oversee the development and execution of component and system Acceptance Test Procedures, Functional Test Procedures, and Operational Instructions
Provide timely solutions to emergent issues as they arise
Execute work under general supervision
Requirements
Strong understanding of Engineering principles and technologies
Required qualifications include coursework or related experience in communications or network engineering
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
Working knowledge of computer systems and computer administration
Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to pass a NASA background investigation
Must be able to pass an initial and random drug testing
Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
Required Education And Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is required, plus 5 years' experience. 1 - 3 years of experience in networking is preferred.
OR
Master's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an engineering program accredited by ABET and three (3) years of Engineering Experience.
Preferred Accreditations
Network Certification(s) is desirable (JNCIA-Junos, CCNA, CCNP, etc.)
Preferred candidates must have familiarity with LAN/WAN standards and procedures.
Physical Requirements
Normally works in an environmentally controlled setting.
Occasionally works at customer sites to include outdoors
