Job Title: Natural Resources Technician

White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature. The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 17,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats.

Position Purpose:

To implement management strategies that promote healthy native wildlife, forests, and ecosystems

across the landscape of White Oak.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

 Work closely with the General Manager and other White Oak leaders to achieve natural

resource management goals for the organization.

 Implement native wildlife management plans, which may include wildlife survey/monitoring

work, wildlife habitat enhancement projects, land management activities, lake & fish

management, and coordinating external contractors as needed.

 Assist with White Oak timber management, including overseeing contractors associated with

forestry activities such as timber harvest operations, understory management, prescribed

burning, and other associated projects/tasks.

 Organize and participate in meetings as needed concerning natural resources management for

the organization.

 Provide hands on labor, coordination, and documentation for exotic, invasive and nuisance

species management and control programs.

 Perform native wildlife, fish, land and lake management tasks such a maintaining deer feeders,

maintaining fish feeders, installing and managing wood duck nesting boxes, prescribed burning,

beaver work/drainage, maintaining fire breaks, and planting/managing food plots.

 Maintain and organize natural resource records, equipment, and facilities.

 Participate and support other White Oak activities and projects, as assigned.

Skills And Qualifications

 A bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, biological sciences, or related major. Or a

minimum of 5 years of field experience with natural resources management, timber

management, wildlife management and/or related research projects

 Experience operating various tools and equipment, vehicles, and equipment including trucks,

dump trucks, tractors, farm implements, chainsaws, mowers, chemical sprayers, fire

management tools, weed eaters.

 Experience with invasive species and nuisance species control.

 Knowledge of southeastern US ecosystems, wildlife and plant life.

 Experience with GPS equipment and GIS computer mapping programs.

 Good computer skills.

 Good written and verbal communication skills.

 Ability to work independently to complete work, projects, and assignments.

 Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

 Dependable, trustworthy, and neatly groomed.

 Attentive to detail and overall aesthetics of White Oak.

 Flexibility in work hours and schedule; job may occasionally require working long hours,

weekends, and holidays.
