THIS POSITION IS LOCATED ON-SITE IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
We seek a mechatronics design engineer who will work with vehicle health monitoring devices communicating with ECU’s, DC battery and power management technology, smart solar panel technology, CAN databus using SAE J1939, and developing technology for object detection. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and excels working in an R&D lab setting, with hands-on experience working with electronics hardware. Individuals with experience working in the heavy-duty commercial vehicle industry with knowledge of powertrains and wired communication protocols in automotive provide an excellent background for this position.
Responsibilities
Evaluate low-power hardware improvements along with energy storage and management technologies (batteries, battery management systems, energy harvesting, powertrains, etc.)
Coordinate the interface of microcontrollers with digital and analog sensors
Complete interfacing with multiple ICs and systems using standard communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, etc.)
Create PC models for interfacing and debugging embedded firmware
Provide and maintain test reports and proper design documentation
Ensure compliance of designs with applicable regulatory standards
Maintain detailed action item lists for all development programs
Coordinate regular meetings with stakeholders to review and update program status, goals and action items
Work in conjunction with senior engineering manager to address resource and timing concerns
Coordinate the technical design and test aspects of new development programs with suppliers and divisions in conjunction with future technology management
Provide continuous improvement through employee development, process improvement and elimination of waste
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering (or similar)
3 years of experience working with battery technology, vehicle systems ECU’s, SAEJ1939 standards
C / C++ Programming
MIL and HIL development work
Hardware/software testing and debugging
Experience with CANoe or similar CAN software desired
Knowledge of standard communication protocols used on heavy vehicles such as CAN (ISO, J-1939, J-1708), Serial (RS-232, 485)
Experience with wireless data communications including (RF, Bluetooth, Thread, Wi-Fi, etc)
Low-Power Microcontroller Development (preferably with the MSP430)
Circuit Layout
Signal Conditioning and data acquisition at the ADC level
Demonstrated ability to manage major development projects and meet deadlines
Experience with sensor technologies in the vehicle industry
Experience coding ARM based MCU’s, creating embedded C libraries
Circuit design and prototyping (OrCAD, Eagle)
Cybersecurity for wireless electronics
Qualification standards and testing procedures (FCC and automotive markets)
Development of low-power electronics (battery)
PCB Level Soldering
